No sweat. Start from Tower 10 at Seaside and follow the rocks to your left as far out as you like.

For the kelp beds, start from tower 11, and look straight out; you should be able to see the smooth water where the beds are. If you're not sure, ask the lifeguard at either tower. It's a pretty good swim, so lots of guys tow a board in case they catch something. Really hard to get out on a big surf day unless youre a strong swimmer: look for the rip current between the towers and ride it out.

Shoot me a PM next time you're down here fishing, maybe you can show me a few things?

P.S.: Make sure you have a license.

I am down for some fishing! Salt or Fresh, name it, im there. A couple years ago I got into Kayak fishing. IMO, its the greatest approach to fishing ever. I have caught more halibut in Los Alamitos bay in one season than I ever had in my life. All catch and release of course.

I love to fish, even though, seriously, I bend the barbs down on my hooks and catch and release only

There was a time when I was only casting the huge AC plugs and Castaic hard baits for the big ones . Talk about a work out.

To some extent, one could say the same thing about riding a bike. It all depends on your approach, but a day of fishing can be anything from kicking back in a comfy chair waiting for a bell to ring to stand-up swordfishing (for those that think fighting a fish could not possibly be physically taxing, I encourage you to look into the latter).

I have over 30 rod and reel combos and wrap my own saltwater rods, but bass fishing is my favorite.

That said, I think maybe a twilight trip out to someplace like Huntington Flat for some night fishing on a local party boat might be fun.

Coleko, AC Plugs? Don't get me started....

Something I've always wanted to do, but haven't... Ride the MTB up to a good lake, river or creek fishing spot. Any ideas?

The only trick part is attaching your rod to your top tube and keeping it there for an extended ride. For the logistics of this event a twilight boat out of davey's would be ideal much more action than fresh although I did buy a flat bottom 15 foot bass boat last year. I need a new stick but could always just pick up some dynamite....

Oh we don't spear fish (though it is something the 3 of us have talked about), we kayak fish. But we were all NCAA Division I swimmers so we should be fine with the surf. And I was an LA Co. Ocean Lifeguard at one point as well.

How much does the gear come out to? We would just snorkel as we do not have SCUBA certs, so just the gun, spears and nets is what we would need...

I'm looking at Pole Spears since spear guns kinda scare me. They run around $40 for the inexpensive kind, though I've seen graphite ones for triple that price.

No idea what a net costs. I'd be snorkeling too.

Fishing is one of the few things I put before MTB'g.

Sierras at least twice a year; Big Bear 4 to 6 trips; the River another 10+ fishing days; just got back from a two-day albacore trip, well you get the idea.

I've been float tubing since '88 and now have four in my collection, the latest is my U-boat. I have managed to hold off on the kayak fad (kinda like the 29'r fad ).

About twenty minutes ago, I sent off my college aged daughter and boyfriend in my old Gregor 16' aluminum boat to fish Newport Harbor for a day.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, fish is GOOD!

Last year fishing a remote pond on the CRIT reservation in Arizona

My son & his friend with some of my old tubes on the same pond

I'm pretty sure that Sprockethead (Andy) is a big fisherman also.

Whats the average length of a pole spear? So you just dive down and huck that thing as hard as you can??? That sounds like its going to take a lot of practice...but I am always down to try.
