I agree, after the demise of the Supra and 3rd gen RX-7 all we had left were not that great. I have yet to watch the video but know this is a formidable car, unlike other turbo or small displacement motors the new ZR-1 which is still not yet available has a 6.2 liter supercharged mill which is undoubtedly making it's full torque output at 3k. The car is not as well balanced as a Porsche, that being said you can bitch slap it around and just drag race to the next corner. With over six hundred horses this vehicle was intended to slay the upcoming viper which did not even make the top ten. GM has done tremendous work getting the c6 sorted out and now we have the cool magneto rheological fluid damped shocks to show for it. However a clever design would not need correction in the first place, think SPV or Pro-Pedal.

When you take a step back to appreciate what the car is (a fraction of the cost of every other car in the line up) and the ridiculously high limits of the track (which most can't approach on the street, not for lack of skill but space) you have both one of the most capable and comfortable cars that you can legally drive. Not to mention it probably still uses a $3 dollar fram oil filter that every one has in stock about three thousand miles down the road.

Hat's off to the general for again giving the masses what they want, wretched excess.

2 seconds is a lot to overcome. just because he wasnt hitting every line, doesnt mean he is a bad driver. ive driven on courses where u dont take the ideal line for one corner in order to set yourself up for a higher exit speed on the next corner. but, like everyone else here, im armchair quarterbacking this. im happy to see guys on this thread with racing experience though. badass car either way. i cant wait to see the v spec version and what it can do.

its a great time to be a car enthusiast. i love it. the late 90's sucked.
My original thought process was that if the driver were to have a few more laps he could of had the chance to rip a faster lap. I know the driver's doing all he can to keep the car on the track. I've driven that track before and it's a handful(extremely rough & bumpy). I also chose different lines on few of the corners. To try to keep a overpowered street tired car on course is a workout.

To me it looked like a combination of street tires and maybe not knowing the track that well. It seemed like he didn't have it memorized as far as speed and where to turn in stuff like that. It looked like a guy who was trying to best lap he could with little seat time on that track in that car.

That guy is GM's development driver, and trust me you have to know a track like that very well to set those kind of times. What makes his lines sloppy is the traction control which allows a great deal of leniency before asserting it's presence. Perhaps the brain box was shut down and that explains the ragged edge but either way with that much power and only two driven wheels it's one hell of an accomplishment.

This vid said they were cheating by running shaved tires and race gas, race tune(Maybe alignment and computer settings other than stock)?

Well they said Nissan also did that so that makes it still a level playing field there.

Antera, I remember when those 3 spoke wheels came out......ugly ass chit!

Anyway I've dreamed of owning a Z06 for awhile now, the ZR-1 is no doubt a bitchin car for $100k though!

100k for a 13.5 second porker. No thanks. Wayyyyy over-rated in my opinion. I could buy a used Firebird and a couple bolt-ons and go faster in a straight line for a grand total of about $9k.

Sure, it wouldn't handle the same...but a car that heavy doesn't handle the way I like a car to handle anyway. Give me an Elise/Exige or a Superformance-7 any day.

Hell, even the last RX7 had better road feel and was more of a "race car" than the GTR was, even though it lacked it's grunt.

The GM Press Release said the ZR1 was factory stock in every way. I didn't see any such claims from Nissan, but who knows. Still, I don't think the company would risk lying about this.
