Default I'm an idiot.

On thurs the 3rd I bought a new Canon G9. Super cool camera. On Weds the 9th. I left in on rails of my truck and drove away.
I am soooooooo pissed at myself. I keep thinking of all the cool gear I gave up buying to have the camera. Now I've got nothing but heartache. Way to go.

Sorry to hear about this. We've all done stupid things, though... it's part of life!

Don't beat yourself up over it. Just learn a lesson and start saving for another camera.

I feel ya. I took my 2 week old Christmas present, Sony H-9, out to Fontucky to shoot a race for fun and it was super dusty and windy. I got home and all I hear is crunching of the gears from the sand. I stopped using it for a few months in hopes of returning it to the store but I took it out once again and said eff it and hope it doesn't break. Oh well C'est la vie

Don't stress. Losses in life just make room for better things to take their place.

I'm sorry to hear about your camera loss, but this above is great advice. You'll waste a lot of time and energy if you go through life letting these things eat away at you.
So, what do you plan to replace it with?

I take it you did not buy it with AMEX. They would cover the whole dumb mess for you. Check with your credit card company to see if they might cover it (if you bought with another card). Some offer some type of replacement insurance.

Sorry to hear, that does suck.

I feel your pain.

I left an $800 digital camera (too embarrassing to give the name of the camera and spec's as digital was in it's infancy back then... ) in the parking lot at a MTB race back in the late 90's.

My wife has left a few cameras in the ladies room too. Oh, and we left one in a bar in Vegas too.

Spend a short amount of time beating yourself up and then move on.

I'll probably get the same thing. I loved it.

I'll look into it. I used a BofA checkcard. We'll see.

The question becomes: If I get over it too soon, am I more prone to a reenactment? Maybe beating myself up will leave a better impression?

I checked, my Rei visa does not cover lost, stolen, or broken products.

Do you have renter's insur? If so, maybe see if it would be worth it or not to claim. Either way, it happens and look at the bright side: you probably won't be making that mistake twice .

I feel for you! I bought Neil an Elph 950 Cannon Powershot for x-mas, I was taking pictures of our pop-up camper to sell, Neil came out to help pull out the sides, where I had put the On Camera, on the canvas...It fell on the street right on the open lens and that was that! I did not buy the warrenty - So in flash, down the drain

Just a few weeks ago I was looking for something, and came across the camera still with the lens stuck out and tilted to the side a bit ,I started fiddling around with it. At this point I had nothing to loose. I foreced the lens back in, it made a loud snap and guess what?? The stinking thing works just like new! It's a bit scuffed up, but at least it works...like I said I had nothing to loose..

Glad it worked out for you.
I went back to the trail head the next day just in case, mainly to give myself some hope for a bit more time. Oh well. I am starting let go. Luckily I had upload all my pics the night before.

Sorry to hear it, and nope not an idiot, these thing just happen.

Idiot : Buddy takes badly out-of-true bike and wheel into bike shop. Bike shop calls and tells him he needs new wheel. Goes to pick up bike, loads bike onto top rack. Forgets to put new wheel in trunk. Promptly backs over brand new wheel. Buys another wheel, gets distracted and drives away without wheel leaving it in parking lot. Luckily, the bike shop guys saw him do it. They rescue wheel. Feels like total idiot when bike shop calls him back to pick up wheel. Bike shop insists they put wheel in car. True Story
