Default for auto techs:Sar boats,Dirty mike, turner rob,2 wheel lee ect...

Have you ever come across some weird prob? Elaborate. When I was a MBZ tech I had a 220 Chassis (S-class) With A ICM fault. Instrument cluster control Module. Well as you may know it is on a multiplex system which uses the EIS (electronic Ignition switch ) as the gateway between the engine and body. I could not program the ICM no matter what I tried. It is online with the front and rear SAM ( signal and Acquisition Module,Door control Module,ESP/ASR, BAS, ect...)I had to go through multiple screens such as: is this a taxi, first aid vehicle, gas tank size,U.S model,Digital,Anolog,ect.... I finally married the new ICM to an E-320 cluster(210-211) chassis and it worked. A TSB came out 2 days after I worked on the car for a month. So in theory the design should work, but the bugs are what make being a auto tech so hard.Food for thought.

I come across crazy crap like that all the friggin time.

Best one to date, Nissan Hardbody, think was an 85 or something like that.... Complaint... "My truck wont start before 645 if I park it at home"

Worked on this trying to get it to fail for about two weeks, customer told me..."It wont happen unless you park it at my house"

So after two weeks of frustraion, I sent it home, met him at his place at 6am, and sure as crap, truck didnt start, about 645, give or take a few seconds, fired right up. another two weeks of trying to figure this, and I found a TSB, love those wonderfull things, and come to find out this particular model had a dual ignition system, IE two modules, that works at different tempuratures. It used a temp sensor that was mounted in the dashboard, and where the guy parked at home, it stayed in the shade untill about 645ish. When it cooeld, it switches to the faulty module, soon as the sun hit the dash, boom your on the working module!!!!!

Having similar issues with my E28, fuel pump kept randomly cutting, red lights, on the freeway only solution was to put in N and try to restart without the wheel locking. After being stranded and calling in some new relays I noticed the tach would not respond to cranking. I remembered a post where a guy's dashboard had worn away the insulation so the wire would ground (stall) when ever the dash was pressed down, lift up no troubles. So while cranking my Brother Will thumped the dash a good one and it fired right up with no trouble since.

Makes me miss carbs and cam driven fuel pumps, cant beat a three wire harness.

that's why my 38 year old datsun will never leave me stranded. no electronics whatsoever. it will probably still run after a nuclear attack. and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why it's not getting spark or fuel. nor do you have to pay one.

Especially old VW's. I went to some Bosch factory schools out in Ontario and the Bosch reps said VW were the worst, they would always change the Bosch design just a little to make it their own.

This all reminds of a little story I was told about the difference between Theory, and Reality.

A Younger teenage boy had a paper to write for school about the difference between theory and reality. So he was asking his Dad for help. His Father explained that theory is how something is supposed to be, but reality is how it actually ends up".
Son says I dont get it though Dad.
So he tells his son to go up stairs and as his Mom if she would have sex with the Bum on the corner for a Million Dollars. So he goes up stairs and asks her.
SHe replies with" Well, That is ALOT of money, noone would ever know So I guess yeah, I would"
He tells his father what she said. His father replies with "See?"
He says "no I still dont get it" So his Father tells him to ask his older sister the same thing. So he goes and asks his sister the same thing.

She replies with" Duh, thats a ton of money, noone will ever know I can make him take a shower first and I would be rich"
He goes and tells his father.

He replies with "See?"
Again the son says "no Dad, I still dont get it."

So the Father asks the son, "Son would you Blow that Bum for a Million dollars?"
He thought long and hard and said"Yeah I think I would, Noone is going to know, its alot of money, and everyone has there price, right?"

Dad says "See?"

"Not quite" Says the son

So the Dad says" Let me explain it like this son. In theory, we have three Potential millionaires Living under one roof. But in Reality, we have two whores, and a cocksucker"

I agree it's not that difficult, especially with a helms manual. My point is that carbs don't just fail and leave you stranded on the side of the road. It'll run like crap, but will still get you home. On my volvo with all the electronics, it will just stop working entirely until you tow it to the dealer who has to hook it up to their vadis system to tell you what's wrong. There are so many sensors that any number of them go bad and you end up stranded. And it'll always cost a ton of money to replace. I could have a carb rebuilt for the cost of a fuel pressure sensor.

95% of all electrical faults are bad Grounds. After checking fuses, the next logical step is check grounds( voltage/amperage will change) and continuity.A wiring diagram tells you a lot about how a circuit is loaded ect......

Especially after the vehicle was in a collision and then went to a body shop! First question to the customer, "Was this vehicle recently in a collision?"

Although I wouldn't entirely agree with the percentage. Loose pinfits or terminals that backed out of their connectors are also common problems.

Put some wheels on the rear and push it down a big hill.Oh and hook that input shaft up to a gear driven Keg, with some tubing to the Helmet and your good to go.
