I was looking at getting a double for me and my GF to use. I'm going to be teaching about animals for a week in Sequoia and it looks like it would be decent for mammoth camping as well.

Looks pretty cool. Have you seen the camping hammocks? Those have a similar idea except... it's a hammock.

The tent cot looks interesting, but there's no room for your gear.
For the same money you could purchase a couple slumberjack cots (got mine a Sports Chalet) and a tent at Walmart. Slumberjack cot: http://www.slumberjack.com/product.a...BEQWP6FWZTPSZE Walmart tent: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5646132 Then if something breaks all your money is not invested in the one item We purchased the Walmart tent five years ago and it still works. Yes, we now use duct tape to hold one of the poles together, but it was only $50! And there's plenty of room for two cots, gear... and maybe even a couple dogs (or kids). ![]() Good luck |

What should I put here?

When I did the Colorado Trail two years ago, one of our riders used a tent cot and swore by it for sleeping, but not much else. They look pretty comfy, well protected, and you're off the ground, but as stated, nowhere for gear. In our case it was fine as we had car support and nothing was left in a camp overnight, as we moved camp every day for the 15 days of riding.
I also have a Eagles Nest Outfitters camp hammock with rainfly and bug net. I've slept in it in the tropics, on the Colorado Trail and in other places. Takes some getting used to, and it's not good for cold weather as it has no insulation under you so it gets cold where you compress the sleeping bag. But in warm weather they can't be beat for breathability. I had it up behind our campsite at Downieville, if you were there.

I personally never really liked the "cot" so for the same price and less ...
The Mrs and I use one like this (but a double) when it is just the two of us on a pack trip And for the times the kids are out with us we have something like this

If you're car camping in a larger tent (or outside) cots are good in hot weather because you get air under them, you've got space underneath to stash gear and you can "sit on the edge of the bed" to get dressed, etc... In cold weather, the airspace under the cot is a detriment.
Those Tent Kots look heavy and very 'car-camping" to me, so I'd prefer a big, cheap tent and smaller cots. If backpacking, I'd think a Thermarest inside a bivy-style tent or a mountaineering tent is preferable to the cot idea.
