Default Understanding Califonia Labor laws

So, regarding overtime.........anything over 8 in a day, constitutes time and 1/2, right? Ok, so what if you work more than 40 hours in a week? What if your week was 12 days solid???? I have read regarding double time for anything over 12 hours in a day, or anything over 8 hours in a day, on the seventh consecutive day worked in a row Pretty confusing......can anyone help lay this out for me??

It's really not all that complicated. I've been dragged into court a few times but have never lost. We follow the labor laws to the letter. Time cards are the best proof you can have.
Did you know technically even salaried people are due overtime also?

I would try to understand California labor laws, but I can't read Spanish.

Like any rule, there are exceptions.....

Here's a few regarding O.T. - http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_OvertimeExemptions.htm

The worst exception of all:

Full-time carnival ride operators employed by a traveling carnival.

Looks like no overtime for Dino Brown.

Rad! You can be sure that not only is that carny not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he's also (legally) overworked and underpaid. Makes me feel pretty good about the safety of those rickety old roller coasters at the fair.

Basically anything over 8 hours in a day is time and half, anything over 12 hours in a day is double time.

Anything over 40 REGULAR hours in a week is time and half.

Not 100% sure about 7th day but I believe that its time and half for 7th day I don't think it goes to double if 7th day is after 40 regular hours or even more then 8 hours.

I also believe that more then 10 days straight is illegal.

Yup... if they are classified as non-exempt then the fact that they are basically hourly employees, with a salary simply being their mode of pay.

What I want to know is if such an employee shows up late, leaves early, takes a long lunch etc can you dock them pay because they did not work all the hours scheduled according to their salary.

The easy answer is discipline or fire them but I am curious if non-exempt status goes both ways.
