they're trying to enter this market as well...all i have to say is good luck to anyone that gets into a wreck with these cars...they just need to keep that shit in China where it belongs.

if you're a conspiracy theorist think about this. I think China is trying to mess with us. first they poison the pet food so our animals die...then they put lead in the paint that goes on our kids toys...what next

Interesting article on how Thorium reactors could safely dispose of nuclear waste and existing nuclear stockpiles while still generating power in the process.

If anyone remember many of the excuses for the price of fuel going up, one of the most commonly used excuse after increased demand and a problem with a local refinery is the lack of demand. Yes, they've blamed the lack of demand on the price of fuel going up.

You obviously are aware.

Don't be surprised that if during our lifetimes that China becomes the world's number 1 super power, all while the US shoots itself in the foot. China's products may be junk now, but the industries in China are learning...and learning fast.

Allright! Let's do something about it. I've got a 30 gallon shop vac with a long hose! Anyone down for a 2 AM gas run down at the 76 station???? Or actually, how about Valero.....that's Chavez's station, isn't it???
Your totally right, Lee.

The laughing video was good, but look at this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Swzb...eature=related I think you may have meant this one as well.

As mentioned, many industries in China are governement subsidized, and as I said, the stuff currently coming out of China is junk, but it sells. Look at those Chinese-made motorcycles, quads, and scooters they sell at places like Pep Boys - totally junk, but they're selling tons of them. So much that they are a serious threat to the top brands.

And also as it's been said, the US is aiding their learning by training them - directly and indirectly. The more tests that are failed like the one above, the more they learn...especially from those who establish the testing criteria. If you were to crash test some of the first American-made cars that were designed and produced prior to crash testing. Heck, even vehicles that passed crash testing 10 or 15 years ago would fail miserably compared to today's standards. Again, they're learning, and they have the government backing their efforts.

kdog4130, I'm on! I'll also bring my wet/dry shop vac so I can get some diesel! I can use a lot of it.

Lee, that's exactly my point. If the US economy is hurting, China will hurt. We are their #1 customer. They purposely peg their dollar to ours in order to make the rates favorable to buy their products.

I see their number one downfall in China being when the entire country implodes from all the health problems they will have as a direct consequence of their lack of caring for the environment. All their skilled workers will be dead or dying in 20 years from all the pollution and junk they dump on themselves.

What's amazing is the fact that there are all those growing pains going on in China, as mentioned, yet the U.S. is still declining as the global hegemon while China is on the upswing. Exactly what that means is up for debate, but for those that are still holding on to and enjoying the idea that the U.S. is still the star of the show just might be in for a rude awakening.

exactly what lee said, a lot of euro and us car makers are building their cars in china to sell in their market. it wont be long before they learn the ways of building good cars. hell look at hyundai...they were the butt of jokes next to the yugo and now they actually have honda and toyota looking over their shoulders because they are a valid threat.

what we are seeing from an environmental standpoint is what we experienced in our brief history during the industrial revolution where enviornmental pollution wasnt a concern "there was money to be made and the workers be dammed" they workers will suffer and some will die but they'll come to the realization just as we did but in a more condensed timeline i feel.

i was at a USC business school mixer the other night and one of their top econ professor stated that we're on the knife edge right now in how we react to the global village and if we dont take the right path we will mess things up pretty bad.

india's tata is also an emerging manufacturer.
but again, world economies are totally tied to the us economy.

so we'll see.
I think you're missing the point... as the emerging market nations become industiralized, they will use more and more oil.

Anyone think it is the start of the end of the energy bubble? First time in recent history a hurricane has threatened oil production and oil prices went DOWN.

Demand is already way down in the US alone. China has stopped its subsidies. Yes? No? Maybe so?

Capitalism at its finest IMO.
