We'll see how well she does now that indy car has changed the minimum weight to factor the weight of the car + driver. Before the min weight was only based on the car and light drivers like danica had an unfair advantage.

Driver Weight To Count Under New IRL Rule

League Wants To Eliminate Lighter Racers' Advantage

POSTED: 8:40 pm EST February 5, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS -- In an attempt to keep lighter drivers from having an unfair advantage over heavier ones, the IRL IndyCar Series will institute a minimum car-and-driver weight requirement this coming season, 6Sports Director Dave Furst reported Tuesday.
The minimum combined car-driver weight has yet to be established. The rule will require lighter drivers to add weight to their cars to meet the established number.
Cars carrying less weight are considered to have an advantage over cars carrying more, especially in road and street races. This has caused some to say that lighter IRL drivers such as Danica Patrick had an unfair edge over heavier ones.

I don't have a problem with the rule change, but I doubt that her lighter weight amounts to much of an advantage in reality. At the speeds they travel, aerodynamic drag dominates. Would they have instituted the rule change if there was a 100 pound guy driving?

Danica needs to take her bad attitude and non-winning ways out of the public eye. She has won (1) race in the past 6 years, and it was possibly a fixed ending (oh, was that out loud), before the real drivers transfered into Indycar.

Besides being a stone faced bitch, she is not that great of a driver to begin with. She has had some very good engineers that know how a car works.
I can say this because I have personal experience with her when she drove our cars in the Champ Car support class.

That is true, but it is the same for all the cars. The only things that were different were the driver's weight and skill. In a 500 mile race the difference between the top cars is only a few seconds.

I have no doubt that the men who changed the rules did it because of the Danica. If she has the best skills she could still win a few.

I agree. In a lot of sports like horse racing or mountain biking being light weight is a huge advantage. In auto racing, it's mostly about the car engine, aerodynamic design, and race crew.

Mr. Hobbs, I'm sorry that Danica refused to go out with you. We don't blame you for trying.

So I think that Danica's only "problem" is that she gets judged by a different standard because she's a woman.

If a guy got on the radio and told the crew the car sucked and they needed to make it better, nobody would ever give it a second thought. If a guy got owned in a pit lane f-up during Indy and they walked down pit lane to yell at the other guy, we'd watch, but it wouldn't have been as big a deal.

She's fast, no doubt and she's learning her racecraft.

She would of been the ana kornikova of open wheel racing if she didn't win a race. Her constant coverage drove me away from american open wheel racing. F1 is looking like it's going to be a tight season all the way to the last race. F1 has always been the pinnacle of racing and you need to have turns to show the skill.

Maybe....but the guy would still be called a d*** by me. It's a team sport, everybody deserves the accolades and the criticism, including the driver who is calling his team out. If you respect the people you work with, and they really did screw up, you keep the rebuke behind closed doors to maintain that person's dignity. If you don't do that, you simply don't respect that person or your team, whether in business or racing.

Not saying that Danica is a bIotch, I just don't get along with people, m or f, that have attitudes of "it's all about me". Whether that attitude is called competitive, type A, or alpha. I happen to know a bunch of professional athletes and the ones that I keep in contact with are competitive, yes, but are great guys. Why are people like Joe Gibbs so respected? As he ever publicly called a player or a driver of his out???

We all have are d*** days but does that define our character or is that a momentary lapse that we regret when we reflect upon an action that demeaned another?

you would be shocked at the gram counting that goes on in motorsports.
Take a look at a sprint car sometime. Pretty impressive where and how they save weight.

I totally agree with you jschwart73
but then again, we all have different opinions about her
But i feel her being a women in a male dominant sport is something to be proud of.
And really its all about how she races.

Anyone else going to be watching the Grand Prix this year??
