The great thing about is that all of those old Bones Brigade movies are on Youtube now. I watched in Search for Animal Chin a few months ago. It was awesome!

Kudos to all the old dudes out there still getting it done. Wish I still was. My skating "comeback" three years ago, at age 36, ended with a broken femur at the hip, surgery, months of rehab, and a solemn promise to my wife that I'd never pick up a skateboard again. Funny how us old farts don't bounce off the concrete like we once did.

Heck, I wasn't @ 18 but what the heck. It's fun and on my way to work. You should come out. Fun spot on a BMX bike too.

I've been fighting a cold this weekend but if I'm feeling better I'll be there Monday for sure.
I can be there in the am.Haven't skated for a while.

Wow, yeah when I used to skate (waaay back in the mid 80s), I wanted to be Rodney Mullen so so bad. He was my idol. Everything that guy does seems impossible to me.

Does he still skate? I am completely out of the skating world/loop these days.

Thanks for posting this, and bringing back those sweet memories. Reminds me of the times when I used to have HAIR!

I was at a friend's house swillin' down beers and then his son showed up with his skate buddies. I tried out his board and I was able to do kickflips and I even through down a couple of 360 flips. Those kids were just trippin' that a guy twice their age could do that crap beside the fact that I had just broken my collar bone a few weeks before (really dumb).

So, I thought I would set my board up and get back to it. It's pretty tough to just "come back" without a hitch though. You lose your "trick muscles" after time. I think I was just lucky that day. I tried messing around in the parking garage and was just retarded. Next time, I am going to try it with a six pack on hand.

bighit and Downhillwebkook, you guys sound like a badazzes. I could never do flip tricks.

Skateboarding will always be in my blood. I now skate with my dog nearly every day. I love it! And he is starting to accept or get used to my occasional grinds of painted curbs. I have also noticed that since I have been mountain biking more regularly, I have become a stronger skater. I now have thoughts of hitting up a skateboard park – scary (and here I thought those days were behind me). Any old schoolers out there who want to hit up the skate parks in Chino?

Your in the right area, Chino has one of the best parks around, and your not far from Montclair or the parks in Corona.

Oh ill hit it up for sure. Not sound cocky, but I can skate. In my young days like 16-18 I was sponsored by my local shop Northwest Snowboards( owner is Matt cummings who used to ride for GNU,later rode for libtech, His little brother temple rode for Burton) and almost had a gig with G&S but I joined the Corps instead.I miss the skate days.Rob Roskop was the man, now owner of Santa Cruz bikes.

I had no idea Rob Roskop owns Santa Cruz bikes. His decks were the sickest. I have to ask... any regrets regarding joining the Corps?

I know I am going off topic, but the reason why I asked is because I am thinking of joining the Navy as a military psychologist. I’m happy to hear that you have no regrets. In addition, I loved the Natas footage. When he board slid that roll bar that was rad! (an appropriate adjective).

sounds like we could have an STR old skool skate day sometime.
No big tricks for me. I'm happy to just get a 50/50 here and there.

kioepo9, skating with my dog is what got me back into it. And it was around 20 years for me. I skated mainly in the mid to late 70's. Bought my last board in '86 or so and that's what I'm using now. Old vintage skateboards are worth some bank. Who would have ever guessed that?

Not a bad Idea man.The military offers a lot, but there is the cost of not being free. You go when they say go.When they say jump you say how high.It will make you a stronger person. There is no option to quit in the military. The biggest factor is, do you really want to commit to the military? There is no changing your mind. When your in it is 4 years of serving.
Its hard to explain, you just really need to want to serve. As a kid I always appreciated and admired those who served in WW2 and Vietnam. My mind set was, and has always been, make those who gave me my freedom proud. That is why I served.I have always felt obligated to give back if that makes any sense.

Yesteryear's greats of vert:

Chris Miller is the fackin' man! I still remember that day at Upland when he hanged up his rear truck on a corner air in the Combi (he was absolutely killing the comp up until this point, by the way). I seriously thought the guy might not walk away.

That fall was insane.
I use to go to Upland every Sunday from around 83-85. I always hated concrete. You can bounce on a ramp when you fall.

I skate at least one day a week down here in San Clemete (Steed park). I don't move like I use to to but it's still good cross traing.

Right on! How fun would it be to have a STR skate day!? By the looks of it, there appears to be a lot of STR members who are (were) skaters. I'm bummed I no longer have any of my old boards. My first board was a Jeff Kendall.

It sounds like we both have to thank our dogs for getting us back into skateboarding.
