That's a nice truck at very nice price. Too bad I don't need another car.

My advice is dont get a car that you cant buy out right with cold hard cash. Get a cheap older car in good running condition that gets good gas mileage and all of your friends with nice cars and nice big car payments will envy you. Plus if they have nicer cars they will offer to drive everywhere and you save on gas and wear and tear. Trust me with a bike shop salary and going to school you do not want a car payment or any other payments for as long as your in school for. Save your hard earned money and have fun with it while your young with no bills

Lots and lots of T.Vs and a real loud sound system. That way you can watch T.V while driving and you cant hear anything. The only time you need to turn the music down is to talk on your phone.

Learn to drive a stick, even if you don't buy one. If nothing else, if you ever need to drive one to get a buddy's car home, you'll be able to - How very true!!!

I'm a little older with two of my own driving now. I started with a '61 VW.

Two bits of advise-
  1. Buy a 1st car that you won't mind seeing lots of dents in - you'll be learning for quite a while (not only how to drive, but where to park...)
  2. Cross a 4WD off your list. It'll add a hefty chunk to your insurance bill; cut down on your mileage and it just adds a few more parts to go wrong.
Here's a car that's been GREAT for our kids to learn on. A 1998 Jeep Cherokee - 4.0L gets ~ 21 on the hwy with 230K on the odo. Dual airbags, 2WD, four doors, auto most things and the old in-line 6 just keeps running like a top. Oh, and they're REAL cheap

I second that...or a 10 yr old Nissan or Toyota 4 cyl pickup. They will run forever, cost next to nothing to buy / run and generally require only the regular maintenance. Insurance should be cheap and no need to get anything but minimal coverage.

My first car was a 92 nissan pickup. It cost $4200 and had absolutely no options. I planned to have it for a couple years til I could afford something better but it kept going and going.... I finally sold it after 8 yrs and still got $2400 for it.

I got a new car now and while fun to drive I regret it once a month when the payment comes out of my account!

Like others have said buy something cheap that will get you where you need to go. Unless your parents are going to be helping you with a car payment, you should try to avoid one. You're young and should be enjoying life not working to make a car payment. You will have the rest of your life to work.
