A bone stock Toyota Tacoma access cab, Automatic, no stereo (install yer own), with AC.

If needed you can cram 4 or 5 people in it, can carry all your bikes and gear or what ever else and get decent millage.

I love the keyless go thing in my BMW... oh wait, you're probably not in the position to get a car with that many bells/whistles... unless you're one of these kids in Coto or Northwood or something where they all have BMWs and Audis..

If you get a car, look for one with a folding back seat for your bike. I think with the new cellphone law you have to be at least 18 to use one in the car, even if it's hands-free. When that day comes you can buy a Bluetooth speaker box that straps to the sun visor.

I recommend a 10 year old Honda Civic.

Crap, I'm talking like my dad.

Crap, I'm talking like my dad.

Go for an automatic, there's nothing more annoying than sitting in traffic and having to play with the clutch and gas.

BTW - you just gave me my first THANKS since I joined. I'm on my way baby!
Remember if your under 18 your not allowed to use a cell phone while driving, hands free or not.

Son when I was your age I would have been happy with four wheels, chasis, and a engine.

  • Power windows

"Needed". That's what my wife says when she comes home with another pair of strappy black shoes.

My first car had.....NOT ONE of those features and I survived. Oh, and the gas meter was broken so....get this....I had to count my miles between fill-ups. OH THE HUMANITY!!!!! And it only got 8-12mpg.

But the car had character and it taught me to appreciate what I had because others didn't have a car.

In my opinion what you need:
-Reliable engine & mechanically sound
-No major body issues
-Install your own stereo, if necessary. Don't waste your money on anything more than $150 because people will steal it.

An Inverter. You can leave your lights in the vehicle to charge between rides. I built mine into the center console and mounted two household 110V outlets on the rear of the console.

Coming from someone who started making money young, and spending money young. Buy a used car, BELOW your means. Otherwise when you're 25-30 you'll add up all the $$ you've made over the past 10 years, and wonder where it went.

Depreciating assets are the suck.

im still off that old skool wagon volvo tip. they are boxy, uber roomy, reliable, have ac, cheap, can install keyless entry, cheap, reliable, built like a tank, and can handle with ipd parts.
did i mention they were cheap? im talking like less than 2k and a 5 door wagon.
so the insurance is gonna be cheap. and if you like working on your own cars, its perfect!

My stereo was a ghetto blaster with home speakers wired in the back. Oh and my windows were the old fashion hand rollers. The 1978 Accord CVCC good times.

hell yeah...I velcroed a discman to the center console of my carburated 1982 celica, reached all the way across the car and rolled the far window down, and went out cruising!

+1 on that. I had a '79 Volvo Wagon as my first car, given to me by dad with 200k already on it and between my dad towing boats with it and me running all over the east coast surfing & biking and through the mountains skiing the thing had over 300k miles on it when we retired it. Hard miles. It rattled like a mofo and the floor pans rusted out to the point I fiberglassed a lot of it back together, but I loved it. It was the fraternity keg-pickup vehicle. I got laid in it. I had epic journeys from Canada to Florida in it. Awesome awesome first car.

if my 6 year old son were driving today, I would probably buy him a Mercedes 300TD Turbo Diesel Wagon for $2500 and convert it to run biodiesel and SVO/WVO (Straight Vegetable Oil/Waste Vegetable Oil). Along with that, buy a 100 gallon drum or bigger and start stockpiling WVO. Plans are in place for SoCal WVO delivery to your home. Half the price or less of current gas prices - or FREE if you want to filter your own oil. A young whippersnapper like you has the energy to collect and filter your own! That's a hell of a lot more dosh to spend on bikes!

There are a million links to alternative fuels. I like these guys.

Things a truck must have:
  • Jerky holder
  • 'Uh f00kin Hemi, man'
  • Capacity for your BBQ and 3 Kegs for NASCAR events
  • Really crappy gas mileage
  • Aerodynamics of a small cottage
  • At least 2ft of ground clearance so that you can tower over everyone and feel superior even though your OC parents hate you and you have a small p3ni5. (Also useful for ensuring a fatality when you hit a pedestrain - you dont want to get sued for crippling someone for life!)
  • Power Everything
Yeeeeeehhhawwwwwwwwwwwww!
