Find the station that you will be departing from and where you will be arriving. Purchase your ticket at the station you will be departing from (one-way, round trip, 10 Trip or monthly pass). The price is based on how many zones you travel through. I use a monthly pass!

Question from Palmdale:
Can i take my mtb on the metrolink? thinking trying to travel down to San Diego one weekend. I would like to take my mtb, a back pack (enough clothes for 2days, and a night out). I think i have to do a switch at Union station to reach San Diego. Are mtb/roadies allowed on the metrolink, if yes, is there a cost for bringing it on the train? Is there a special rack or check my bike in before boarding?

Depart Riverside/La Sierra 5:38am
Arrive Union Station 6:55 am As far as bikes, there is a bike section on each train that holds 2 bikes. There are velcro straps that hold the front and bike wheels. No charge and no, no check-in. I don't know about Amtrak. Seating is 1 person per seat and there is space underneath your seat for a small bag. Anything else you basically have to hold in your lap. The train is getting more and more crowded due to gas prices so sometimes it can be standing room only.

Amtrac will tell you to box your bike and send it as freight. Don't listen to the ticket sellers. When you show up you just take your bike into the baggage area tie your bike down. They charged me $5 from Fullerton to ABQ.

I have seen 4 bikes loaded into the bike rack. The guys just bring their own bungy cords and tie them together so they don't bounce around.

What should I put here?
|
I've taken a road bike on the Metrolink, to Oceanside for $12... taking it all the way to SD on amtrak is considerably more expensive. But you can change in O'side to the local San Diego light rail (Coaster?) if you want to get further.
I've also spent lots of time with my bike on the Metro subway around L.A. now. Friday I rode to NH, caught the orange line to Reseda, then rode to Simi Valley to pick up a bike part, and did the same in reverse. It was 50 miles of riding and about 30 on the bus.

Team America! F*K Yeah!

You don't have to pay extra for bike on metrolink. I see people with bike every day. Be sure to bring some sort of tie down because there might be more than 2 bikes in each section. I see a lot more bikes now and days with the gas price.

I've taken my road bike on Amtrak on a couple different occasions without paying extra (between OC and SD). The regular passenger cars have space for 3 bikes each. Sometimes if there's no space available you'll have to put them in the cargo area (the conductor will help you). |
