Default The Jimi Hendrix Experience: American Landing

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: American Landing was aired Last night on KCET - HD.

I am a fan of Jimi Hendrix, (although not an obsessed fan) I have always enjoyed his music greatly and I have been "Experienced".

This program contain digitally remastered audio and video, and documented Jimi's "Landing on American Soil". I never really knew that he was "virtually unknown" in the US until the Monterey Pops festival, so that was very cool to learn and see.

The music and the video quality of that famous performance was outstanding. More than outstanding is was simply mesmerizing, I have seen clips of this landmark performance but never this much. I just turned up the sound and submerged, it was great.

I looked on the KCET site to see when it is going to be re-aired but I can't find it. They are in the middle of a pledge drive and it something you can purchase with a donation. But keep an eye out for it, it will be worth your time, I am sure they will re-air sometime.

I think it was the same with Janis Joplin but I am trying to pull this out of my bad memory. I think I heard the crowd was rowdy and when she got up to sing, the place went dead quiet and all eyes were focused on her. I love stories like that.

If you come across the listing, please post it.

I saw the original film at the old Wilshire Theatre in Fullerton back around 1975. Anyone else here remember the Wishire Theatre back then?

"Wild" would be a major understatement to describe the atmosphere in there. The first time I went there (to see Jimi at M-Pops), the guy in front of me at the ticket window was carrying a case of beer. He set it on the counter, bought his ticket, grabbed the beer and went on in. I thought that was pretty crazy until I went inside the theatre. That place was off the hook. Never seen anything like it.

Jimi at Monterey pops was definitely my favorite Hendrix flick. I would love to see that footage again.

I need more Hendrix in my collection, thanks for the reminder. I've been giving the Band of Gypsies album a listen after many years of collecting dust and his tone during that performance is awesome, makes me want to build a custom plexi, but one expensive hobby is plenty right now.

If you can find this release, ck it out!

JIMI HENDRIX-CRASH LANDING (1975)
This is one of those infamous posthumous Hendrix releases perpetrated by Alan Douglas in the aftermath of Jimi's passing. It features unreleased and unfinished studio tracks Hendrix recorded, with the original backing musicians eliminated and new session musos, only one of which had even met the man, providing new backing. Hendrix fans hate these releases. I've always liked this cover, with the sepia-toned Woodstock Jimi photo and the whimsical touch of the falling bird over the elaborate script font of the album title.

I remember my older sister telling me she was going to see this new guy called Jim Hendricks and he was supposed to be pretty good with a guitar. I told her thanks, but I had some other stuff to do. DOH!

She came back and told me how much I'd like him. A few months later I heard him for the first time, it was immediate I was hooked. I loved his music like no other for years. I really did cry when I heard he died. I thought it was a bad joke.

Could you believe that he was the opening act for the Monkee's back in '67.That was when he was boo'd off stage! Mike Nesmith couldn't believe it.Kept telling everybody that Jimi was the future. After that show,Jimi left the states for London and a music legend was born. Also in '66 or so I had a chance to see the Doors when they were fist starting out,at the old El Monte Legion stadium.Another legendary act. - Lloyd
