Default great fathers day weekend...sorta

Fathers day (my first) got moved up a weekend due to a home pool swim meet this coming weekend for the 2nd job. (hence, the "sorta")

my idea fathers day weekend would have been to spend this coming Saturday with the kiddo and my dad out at the LA Hot Rod show, but, alas, things change. I can't exactly leave 35 kids, who apparently depend on me for coaching them, at a meet. oh well.

so, Plan B randomly came about- it turns out that San Clemente was having a hot rod show of their own this past weekend so we decided to go. FUN little show- about 3 blocks worth of cars to see right on the street that goes down to the peir. nothing truly over the top good, but some fine rides.

good cars seen:

34' ford coupe. black paint for miles. like a new Ferrari, you could get lost in the inky blackness. interior was all red leather, engine house was super clean with dark blue A/N fittings to give a hint of color. body panels were so properly aligned it wasn't even funny. fabric roof stitching was also perfection. I'm sure this car won the show- the owner obviously didn't need to pose the car with trophies or placards of what was done- it was just that good sitting there.

37' ford sedan- really clean. ford 389 all cleaned up nice under the hood- red paint for miles. this car was of interest as my dad's restoring a 36' sedan- HUGE differences in one year with fenders, headlights, glass, dashboard, and on!

38' ford with a HUGE blower/plenum/intake/stack/yowza out of the hood, and a gigantic big block. yes, it got fired up and just the sound of the big block with blower was a great sound- the kiddo couldn't take her eyes off of it (insert proud poppa imagery)

maroon dodge charger. it looks as if it had been repainted as it was so clean and straight, with all oem under the hood as well as the interior. period perfection- the Hemi orange looks like it was original on the block. wow.

and someone was nice enough to let one of the local old benz clubs join in- several 190s and 300sl's...and one white gull wing. wow. all really....well, ridiculously clean.

one 54' Ford F100 that had been meticulously restored. oak in the bed, LOTS of chrome, incredibly perfect paint.

sorry- zero pics- I had the kiddo in one of those front backpack things, and using her head as a tripod doesn't work....trust me- she redefines "squirmy".

all in all, I think the kiddo dug it- she is transfixed by the color blue, so it was a good thing. happy noises were abundant!

topped off the afternoon with washing my car, and having an alesmith X-IPA, Lagunitas "Lucky 13" and a delerium tremens (over a 5-6 hour period- let's not be stupid here, people!). I was a happy (slightly fuzzy) camper.

so, any of you daddy's out there have any cool plans for this coming weekend?

Sounds like a great day! I have some bottles I'm saving for this coming Sunday - a Stone Pale Ale and a La Fin du Monde amongst others. Pending on how large the evening gets on Saturday, I'm planning on riding from my Mom's house at the beach in Santa Barbara up Romero Canyon and down Cold Springs to Gibraltar reservoir, back up Angostura Pass, and down Gibraltar Road back into town. If I can't get an early enough start I'll probably scrap the back country bit and crack open a breakfast beer atop the Romero water tower instead and just do an out and back. Stop at the house for some pancakes with the kiddies, then paddle out on the log with my 6 year old on the nose and spend the rest of the day at the beach. Should be fun!

My kid's and I actually did Fathers day this past weekend also.
I'm gonna be racing in Oregon on Fathers day, so we did it early too.

Kaylee and I got to go see Strangers.

Got to have a nice hunk of chocolate cake for desert on Sat night. (yes, I shared a little)

Rode with Jake and his friend Chris on Sunday.

I'm a lucky guy. Pretty much every day feel's like Father's Day at the Maxwell House!

wow. you summed it up nicely- one (mostly toothless) smile from our kiddo makes me feel the same way.
