XC not DH for me

Default Any of you guys get restless?

I haven't ridden in a week, due to my wisdom teeth being pulled, and I wake up in the middle of the night with muscle spasms and become restless. I went to bed at 1130 and wake up at 130 and go back to sleep at 5-530 to wake up again at 730-8. This has been happening for the past 3 days. I will be jumping on the bike finally again today and will ride for hours to make up what I have lost. I was just curious if anyone else gets this way when not riding or doing anything physically straining over a long period of time. I even tried to take a sleep aid and it made it worse.

See it is now 320am and I am wide awake wandering the internet and doing push-ups/sit-ups so I can go back to sleep. I walk by the bike every day and clench my teeth wanting to go out.

Pic for clicks. (cell phone pic of my bike finished)

I've had the same issue almost my entire life. I still only sleep around 6 hours a night, if that. If I get some good rides in I'll sleep pretty good and might even sleep over the 6 hour mark. Doctor told me not to worry about it that your body will tell you when it needs sleep. (Mine does, usually around 2 pm at work). I also have a problem when I do endurance rides of over 12 hours, I can't stay asleep. I'll be dead tired of course and fall asleep fairly quickly but then wake up a couple hours later and won't be able to get back to sleep for hours if at all. This really screws up the next day.

I've always been one of those "asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow" people. But last year when I had to take a month off of riding due to an ATV crash, I had major insomnia issues after a week or so. No joke--they went away as soon as I started riding again.

No physical activity really jacked my system up.

Your probably restless because your mattress is leaning against the wall. Tough to sleep in that position.

I am still off the bike and have been for the past 7 weeks. It was tough for the first month, but I found that doing pushups and pullups in my apartment were sufficient to release my frustration.

And yes, I have been sleeping better since I started the pushups and pullups. Now that I think about it, my sleep has been great as of late.

Really??? WOW, I wasnt swollen at all but it just hurts still. One side hurts like a female dog, even after a week. We have some vicodin left over from when my great grandpa lived with us and I had to take some last night b/c I could not sleep, throbbing pain. My ride was a sweat, I usually do two laps of Black Mountain w/o a stop and not be tired. I had to stop twice on one lap and i am wasted. I will have to train alot to ride vail lake. O geez

Hey man, if the pain and discomfort is getting to be too much, it can't hurt to visit your dentist (oral surgeon?) or primary care to make sure everything is okay.

I will tell you as people have told me, don't get frustrated with where you're at right now. I know it's tough, but patience is a virtue right now. Your body has gone through a lot and it's going to take some time to get back completely back to normal. With basic knowledge of the body and whatnot, I have come to the following conclusion: a bulk of our riding endurance comes not from the lungs, but from muscle memory and strength (power?). Your legs will remember what to do, though it might take a handful of rides for them to realize it.

I was given the green light by my dr this morning to start working out. This week has been hellacious in the sense of no free time. In an effort to get on the bike and be social, the short ride at the Toad Fest (~10 miles) will be my test. Haha, the periodic stops for games will be a good excuse to stop and rest.

Good riding and keep us posted on your progress.

Fortunately no, I don't get restless, but if I go without riding (even an easy spin) for more then 4 days, my hips start to hurt and my legs ache. Weight lifting doesn't help either.

I'm probably mental...

Good riding and keep us posted on your progress.

I went friday and he said everything was good to go. I have another checkup manana (morning). I went to the Padres game tonight and was talking to my friends sister and dad and they were suprised I could even open my mouth and talk the way I was, she had hers out a month ago and was swollen and barely talked for two weeks. She said it was so bad and was on vidodin for 3 weeks. So I think i am doing good, I can cut the pain off now with 2 tylonol and can chew gum, eat almost anything, just afraid to eat chips and pop corn. I will hear the pro's words tomorrow and give you guys and gals an update.

Thanks for the insights and worry about my health.

Doc says everything is good. Just some bruising. Will be like that for another week or so. He said it looks great and healing fine.

the vicodin really messes with your sleep cycle too, btw. often it makes people sleepy initially but then insomnia.

I meant more of the ride to help with my sleep. The vicodin was to get me through the ride easier. I have started to ride to work now, and now I am only taking tylenol to get me throught the day. I am getting much better sleep now.
