What about the new Scion xB or the new Mini Cooper Clubman?

I own an older Scion xB with no problems and good gas milage, but I have been thinking about upgrading to one of these mini wagons.

I recently test drove the new Mini Cooper Clubman and I was very impressed with the handling of the car and the high gas milage. It just seemed like an all around solid vehicle.

Hey BFlo,

The MSRP on the new Scions xBs are about $16,370, xDs are $15,170, and the new Mini Clubman starting at MSRP $20,600. Not too bad in price.

P.S. Get a hitch rack, pack the gear and kids inside, and off for a fun driving vacation/camping trip... on a small gas budget and still looking good.

Good thread Danny. Based on years of owning cars, I agree with your lists. We have a Toyota Matrix and Honda Civic on our household and so far no problems. I guess I should take my Matrix to a mechanic to get checked out for good measure, but 70k miles with just oil changes and tires.

There's some kind of recall on my Matrix for a jacked up window motor or something, but like you said, the guts are bullet proof even if the interiors leave a lot to be desired.

Just out of curiosity, what are your criteria for testing?

It's funny talking to people, because EVERYONE loves their car/truck. Especially the truck people.

So you test drive prototypes or just models that are to be on the dealer lot (QC Testing)?

I have an LR3 and I did have issues with the suspension sensors within the first 500 miles. No issues since then. I really like the way it handles on and off road. You get to appreciate the vehicle's capabilities once you take it offroad. The LR3 climbs like a mountain goat and can get through pretty rough terrain. Lots of fun... It's my offroad toy when I'm not on moto.

I hated my 2004 F-150. It was an over priced POS. Sold it as fast as I could.

Yup. My buddy had an '83 Sentra that wouldn't die. When the auto trans started acting up, he swapped in a junkyard manual for dirt cheap. I think he bought the car for $300 and drove it for years until he got rolled for a traffic violation and it got impounded.

Yup! My 98 Accord has 176K miles and still rolling. My old 92 Civic Si had 146K miles when sold and still pulled hard. My 93 Civic back in college had 375K miles before the block was toasted.

My g/f has a Matrix and the recall is for the window bolts coming loose, causing the window to fall into the door, occasionally when the vehicle is in motion.

Whoops! Just picked up a new VW on Friday .

I leased it though, so it shoudn't matter .

I will say the interior eatures on the VW blows away other similarly priced cars, although I have heard bad things about longevity.

driving is overated, you dont have to worry about insurance, car payments, dui, registration, repairs, GAS
chicks cost to much and just want your money anyway.

Ride yer bike and take the bus 3bucks ride all day, cheaper than a gallon of gas, plus you meet the best people on the bus and good stories too.

AS far as the ladies the best ones/ the keepers are one that are happy taking the bus with you or sitting on the bars of your beach cruiser. Or even better rides her own bike, OR DRIVES YOU AROUND! YEAAAH
