okay, wtf is going on here and in MY neighborhood. Cool factor this weekend went from 10+ (me of course) to a -2

I know gas prices are wack at $4+/gallon but please. if your going to go from 4 wheels to 2 shouldn't it be a mtb instead of these.

second one is also on a local run/walk "trail". at least she is wearing a helmet on her "workout" maybe she's a member of STR segway (sp?) trail riders

And how are you describing "hate"? Is all difference of opinion = "hate" to you? Is it at all possible that you are seeing "hate" where it's just people voicing an opinion that doesn't match yours?

Real hatred is well beyond difference of opinion, and a hell of a long way from mere criticism. Real hatred is where you'd be moved to punch someone in the throat for what they've done. Not simple criticism.

Actually the technology that makes the segway work has been migrated to a wheelchair application.

I sure it is expensive, but does seem to solve some of the access issues that the wheelchair bound have had to face like getting up stairs and curbs.

At this point I am all for anyone taking whatever alternate means to get to/from work.

"Retarded" is slang for "stupid," and I see nothing wrong with the comment. You're looking for something to call "hate" and misusing that term, in my view.

Perhaps you might try to be more accurate with your use of the term "hate," that might help a little.

If saying "he's not like us" is "hate" then you definitely need a new dictionary. For example, in this thread, I am concluding that you are nothing like me, at least where precision of language is concerned. By observing this I am not hating you, literally speaking. And I'm not even "hating" you, using the term in its new version as you have defined it.

One sure way to get people to disagree with you is to accuse them of "hating" when all they're doing is voicing opinions regarding approval or disapproval of something. Maybe it's time for you to realize that the world contains people with all sorts of views, and some of them probably are not consistent with your views. Such a thing isn't "hate" and it's not literally hate, it's just a difference of opinion.

PS: I think Segways are the most ridiculous things on Earth. Those who use them deserve all the mockery one can muster, unless they have some sort of legitimate medical or physiological condition that prevents them from moving about under their own power. By observing this I am hating nothing. I am simply stating an opinion on what is wasteful and self-indulgent and, perhaps in some cases, misplaced show-off attempts.
