Default The Two-Hour Rule

I know that most office workers like to slack off, but is it actually as bad as Ken Rockwell makes it seem?

It's closer to the truth in larger companies.

I work for a large company and at this point in my office career I would just settle for 9 hour workdays. It would be great to actually have a full lunch hour once in a while that wasn't interrupted with calls. I'd also like not to have to work on weekends or travel on weekends so I can show up for a meeting first thing Monday morning.

The 2 hour rule might have been in effect in the 50s, 60s and 70s, but I don't think it is any longer as companies have maximized their profits by hiring the barest minimum of personnel required to keep the lights on, products shipping, phones answered, etc.

If I sound bitter it's because I worked all weekend in my "M-F office job" instead of out riding my bike burning off all the stress from the long week I just put in. Sure there are office workers who slack off just like there are in any area, but today's reality is far different than what you read in this blog.

Being a photo buff (with little time for that hobby either) I like Ken Rockwell, but it seems to me he is out of touch with what it's like in the average modern office job. His dad taught him how things were 40 years ago, not what they are today.
