Default Looking for a good work-out? (Yoga content!)

Not on the bike?

About a month or so ago Steph loaned me her Power Yoga (with Rodney Yee) DVD, and it's been sitting on my TV ever since.

We're doing this exercise thing at work, so we have to get 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. Since I had some stuff I wanted to do Monday, that became our rest day. Normally Friday is our rest day.

So, we commuted in, and then were trying to figure out what to do. Justin rode at lunch, so he had his 2 hours in.

I figured since I would be riding the next 9 days in a row that taking yesterday off (aside from the commute) wasn't a bad idea. So, Justin went to work on some CAD drawings and I got ready for Power Yoga.

FWIW, Rodney is pretty fast. He explains things decently, but I was a bit behind for the first 5-10 minutes or so. I finally found the rhythm.

About 26 minutes in I was exhausted. He was sweating and breathing heavy, and so was I. I stopped twice for water and to just rest.

I could barely lift myself up into upward dog and cursed every downward dog.

Finally it was time for some different poses, and then THOSE got difficult. At one point I was just like, "No! I'm NOT doing a 3rd one!".

Then he got to the sitting stretches. Some felt great at first, but I'm totally over cobbler's pose (it was hurting at the end).

It was my first attempt at quite a few of the poses, but by the end of the hour I felt totally worked!

Was nice to take the hour and do something a bit differently. I'm not sore yet today, but maybe later?

Side note... anyone: what is the difference between upward dog and cobra pose?

So, if you're into yoga and looking for a workout, try this DVD!

FWIW, I've only ever done am/pm yoga (basic beginner stuff IMO) and then yoga for athlete's (I've done the combined flexiblity/strength exercises, the flexibility workout, and then the cycling mini-workout). This one was tough, though!

Definitely some challenging poses!

It's a good one, for sure!!! Hey, I'll trade ya your parking permit back for it!!

FWIW (and from what I can tell) upward dog has straight arms and cobra has bent arms.

Also, this DVD was the first time I had ever done a backbend...scary but fun all at the same time.

upward dog - you are on your feet. cobra, you are lying on your legs. (i think)

i love yoga, I do it every night. I do my own thing, but it's a complitation of stuff I like from 2 audio cd's (i find them easier to follow than dvd as its audio). Yoga sactuary by shiva rea is one of my favorites, and you can mix/match the tracks to the length of time/type of workout you want.
