Great thread! I have a friend who makes custom Hawaiian shirts (she travels to Hawaii a few times a year and brings back printed material to make them from). Over the years i've accumulated at least a dozen of her creations.

I might add a 'rule' (or suggestion) that the best music to listen to while wearing a Hawaiian shirt is classic Exotica (Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, Les Baxter, Esquivel, etc.) or Latin Jazz (Machito, Tito Puente, Joe Cuba, etc.).

Heres a pic of our Hawaiin shirt day at work, last summer. Note that a couple guys took it too far.

For some reason whenever we had a themed shirt day, someone always had to gay it up.

I started "Hawaiian Friday" at work a few years ago when I worked at a big office and the same thing happened, some women even brought fruit hats and went overboard

Ya, we would have concert shirt day, ugliest shirt and so on. Guys would cut their shirts into belly shirts or wear a blouse. This is on a construction site too!

This is such a great post, Jose. I pretty much agree with all your rules. I do have to add another though. You got to leave the top two buttons unbuttoned. Got to show off that chest hair!

Back in college, I felt my Hawaiian shirt (orange with white flowers and huge coconut buttons) was the most technical advanced shirt ever! (it went on every ride, even race day!)
