In other words, you have been hired by a department and they are footing the bill for you to attend the academy>

Not a racing sponsership, wouldn't help in this case!

LAX PD, is actually separate from the LAPD. They use to have a better pay grade then LAPD, although both are paid by the city. Not sure if that is still true, I know LAPD was complaining about this. LAX PD has extra training that regular officers don't go through. Another option that few people know of or think of LA Port Police. If I remember correct speaking with them they have the same pay grade as the LAX PD.

Congrads! PM me if you have any questions about life in the police academy. Better to prepare now than latter!

Feds are hiring too. I'd stay away from TSA though, mass exodus going on all the time from there.

I think DHP would make a great police officer. I can almost guarantee that he has a squeaky clean background. I mean he's a good kid from Palos Verdes, how much trouble can you get into there? DON'T ANSWER THAT!

Anyways, I think he should check it out, maybe US Customs as well? I've got a buddy who works for them. He had a BA though. Hmmmm anyways, help this kid out! DHP ROCKS!

if your gonna be a cop out this way, you mine as well be one in Arcadia.
My dad and stepmom are both police officers there, and there are many good people that work there that i know personally. Heck, my dad may even be your training officer. Also, some agencies pay better, but remember that even if they pay more, you may not have as much "fun" as you would at another agency

If that is my concern... shouldn't I work as an OC sheriff?

That all depends on the uniform I guess. I like going Lt. Dangle style and wear my shorts real short. Chicks dig-it!

Maybe it's time for a career change.

Can't speak for NSA but for domestic operations, CIA required their personnel to move back to headquarters (Virginia) every three years from their current assaignment.

Border Patrol is always looking for agents and Customs and Border Protection was aggressively hiring locally.

Check out USAjobs.gov for federal law enforcement postings or any other federal jobs for that matter.

Yes that is when a current officer in that department knows you and will help guide you through the hire, and what to say, how to test and what they are looking for. each Station has a TYPE of officer they need to fit a, well lack of better words department regulation. Take this, lapd wants black and hispanic women. Not that you would get the job in a day if you were but they have a lack of them, and the idea is to have a wide range of backgrounds. Also I have my BA, and things like that help. CHP, where I had an Sgt. who wanted me to work with the agency said after my probation i would get up 10% pay hike for my BA, 3% for K-9 and more for my years with another agency.

LAPD is the most laid back on the background as they follow the FBI for drug use, my department was no drugs, and never driven drunk, or what they said did you think you should had driven.

the background is long, and you will give them a list with 20 people or so and they will not talk to any of them, they ask them for other people who they know that knew you. I had a High School teacher that I never even had tell them about what I was like in school!!!!

best bet is ask a friend you know who is a cop, get a porac, or laso, lapd blue beat mag. and just read up on where you want to work and find some one who you can work with at that departmemt to help get you hired. I could go on......

I wouldn't say LAPD is laid back, I know a few people who were denied because of background and I still an scratching my head on why. One is the cleanest person you probably have EVER met. One thing with LAPD you have to sign a contract saying you will stay so many years. They had to many people join go through academy and then leave shortly afterwards.

lapd will bump you if they find a reason to on the poly. I have friends one ret. SWAT, and one Lt. from Harbor who have said LAPD is so active that it is a easy place to start out at. I never did it so it is all word of mouth. But one will only know if he tries...
