Default They're at it again...

Wired has an article on the Crimanimalz and their second ride on the 405 / 10.

Wired; thats pretty big distribution.

I have mixed feelings on the subject and I just hope no one gets squished or gunned down.

Ho hum. I mean, it looks like it was fun and all, and I've driven up that on-ramp, taken that offramp and headed up that freeway a few hundred times, but could that ever accomplish anything other than fun? Of course not. Nobody on that freeway "would be home by now" if they rode their bikes, you idiots. Yes, you, you with the silly hair and the grin on your face.

I like and appreciate the point they're trying to make.

But it's not worth my life!

I understand they want to promote bike riding but one of them is going to end up seriously injured or dead. Messing around on Socal freeways is just plain stupid.

i can totally see your point here, but if they get a few people on the freeway idling to realize that a bike is a viable alternative, they're getting a good point across.

the only bad thing that i see is their weaving in and out of traffic- that'll get a driver with a two-ton (or more) weapon at the command of their right foot pissed off.

so, yes, do it, make your statement, fly the freak flag, but make it as safe as you can- read: ride the right side, like you would in a bike lane on a street. you're already illegal enough as-is riding on a freeway- being reckless is just insult to injury...or worse.

car speed 0-15
bike speed 10-25

best recent commuting experience: riding home from Job #2 two Fridays ago I was cruising along Barranca away from spectrum toward Stepford- I kept it at a pace of about 20 mph while the cars all accelerated to speed from the recently-green light, only having to stop at the next red light. I didn't have to put one foot down or even get close to un-clipping.

I think thats there best case scenario. Being I drive the 405 all the time I see some pissed off driver just taking one out. I mean I see people try to squeeze off motorcycles all the time.
