Absolutely terrible. And for those who didn't actually see the match, Terry didn't blow it. It was dumping rain and his plant foot slipped, sending his shot off the post. Anelka did, in fact, choke.

That, my friend, is the worst part about all of this.
That was a weird shot. He trotted up to the ball, and then did this weird hesitation/stall thing, and by the time he kicked it, Cech was already there for the save.

Man I don't know what your all talking about...it was a great game. Both teams had an iffy half but both teams had some moments of near brilliance. Shots off of posts for one team, near goals for the other. A great header by Terry to keep it going for Chelsea (although I think the shot was gonna go high). The PK's were edge of your seat the whole time. I ended up watching the match with my Bro-in-law over at the ESPNZone with about 40 to 50 other ManU/Chelsea fans and I have to say it was one of the coolest sporting moments I've been involved in. I had a blast and I think it was an pretty fun game. Sorry to the Chelsea fans but I honestly don't think you have anything to hang your head in shame over, they played great, it was just ManU's year. (Not that I mind as I'm a ManU fan!!!) I suspect both teams will be right there in the mix next season, so here's a toast to next year and another scrappy season right to the end!

Agree wholeheartedly. I don't really like matches like this being decided by PKs, but what an ending! I definitely think this game created some new fans of European soccer (hopefully not more Man U fans - already too many of those!
). And yes, I think it was well-played by both sides, and this year's Premier League race down to the wire and the Champion's League clearly proved that these are the two best clubs in Europe at the moment, if not the world. I can't say I've had more excitement in one season and we didn't even win anything. Can't wait 'til August.Quote:

This match lived up to it's billing in my estimation. I'm sure Chelsea are disappointed, but the bottom line is that they came as close as possible without getting it done and really have nothing to hang their heads about and should just rededicate themselves to another fine run next season. It's a shame that the field was not better prepared. It showed many times throughout the match. It was the same for both sides, but it failed several times in the match. It may have even lead to Chelsea's goal as van der Saar slipped on his way out, but I won't Chelsea were undeserving of that goal in any way. When a stadium has contracted to host a match of this magnitude, they should make damn sure the field is in top condition. They were making huge field repairs (sod replacement) just a day or so before the match. Unacceptable. As for the match itself, this one had everything a fan could hope with the possible exception of a win not decided on kicks from the mark. It was tough for everyone. The intensity was off the hook. The were controversial actions by players although I think the refs did a fair (I said fair, not perfect) job OVERALL. I generally like Joe Cole, but I felt he acted most like a baby yesterday. He let his emotions affect his play in a negative way. Lots of chippy actions and such but neither side was innocent so I've got no complaints. Although I feel disgust toward C. Ronaldo's class leading propensity to try to influence referees in a most unsporting way, his goal was another example of why he was (otherwise) the best in his sport this past season. That said, that's twice that he recently choked on a PK in an important Champion's League match. Lots of emotion and it got to even the sport's top players. When we step back, settle down, remove your red or blue goggles and assess it objectively, I think the you'll find this match was very much worthy of a major championship final and should go down as a true classic ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
