Work sux then u ride
|
i just get a call from my wife (she's home sick on vacation and hating life) and in addition to brief chat on some household stuff, she ask's me "so what do you want for our anniversary?" (it's coming up later this month).
So in typical fashion I answer as I always do "a new bike" (yes, this is my standard answer to same Q for b-day, x-mas, etc) and it very seldom even gets a response. Please keep in mind i already have a few bikes including an AM, DH/FR and a new (this past x-mas) DJ/Urban that I was riding at yesterdays Peters canyon tacofest. Anyway, instead of the typical "no, really" response or "so which bike are you selling then", I get a "really, do you know what you want?" (perhaps a moment of weakness on her part from being sick) WTF???? I just froze, i was speechless, nothing, think, nothing, oh, no, I'm blowing it, please come up with something. Hmm, can i get away with umm, "let me think about it"...NO this will not fly, I have to seize the moment, think, please think, what's wrong with me. I'm looking around, quick surf the net find something, anything, just throw something up, it may stick, ahh sh!t, i'm taking too long, time is running out. I suck, I'm a total d!ckhead. I am so f'n weak. How could I be blowing this. then a moment of traquility hit I have 3 bikes all of which don't get ridden enough with family commitents and work...maybe i really dont need another rig ![]() So, upon reflection - this may be the reality. I just broke down my XC HT that i wasnt riding for parts and not looking to replace that. sorry to say, just dont have enough skill for a trials bike, never gonna be a roadie or CC. My DJ is close enough for me to a BMX and will prob turn it into a SS at some point so sort of have that covered as well. Sometimes I think would like to grab the horns of a 29'er at some point but really don't need one now. So, is this it? Is there nothing more? am I done. just ride what I got and have to envy others new bikes. Then I start thinking, hmm, maybe its time to get my shock pushed, maybe i should get some new brake levers, maybe a new wheelset. That's it I"M BACK damn, that was scary. Oh, sh!t now my wife is asking about where I am taking her for dinner to celebrate and should she buy a new dress. D@mn, opportunity missed. Well, at least I know i got my mojo back and its' game on. Beside I can always parlay this into my b-day at end of summer, right?!?

Choose Wisely

You worked it out in the end. If you don't need another bike, you can always upgrade the parts on the current fleet!! It's usually easier to get clearance for a new wheelset or fork or brakes or whatever, than it is for a new rig.

That was rich.
Let that be lesson to us all. All us that are married. I always answer that same question with "a new bike" or "just a mtn bike mag is all i need", to which I get back "cant you think about anything else?. Nope So if any of us ever have that situation happen to us, we should have a wish list tattooed to our hands. thanks Kid A.
