Eating is great in Hillcrest. If you have a HUGE appetite try Hash house a go-go. The portions are monster huge! Pizza try Bronx. Mexican, Ortegas is nice. Quote:

Sorry 'bout that. Just a joke. Didn't mean to get that conversation going.
But, I used to live on Arizona St. I have no issues with Hillcrest -- even been to a gay bar. When I was new to the area (and CA for that matter), I went on a walk, and was cruising down University when this guy driving by nearly broke his neck checking me out. I decided to go into F St. and as I was walking in, he pulled into the parking lot. I made a mad dash to the left which just happened to be the completely gay side. I was desperately searching for hooters that didn't involve dicks when he came in the door. "you look scared.", he said.

...Yeah while in Hillcrest check out the GayMart, they have parking in the rear...no seriously, Hillcrest has awesome food and the people are friendly.
PB=$$ and Attitude: I lived there for for 17 years, expert. OB= $ I forget, i was too stoned Downtown= $$$ and you better have slacks on Old Town= $$ Ole' Hotel Circle=$$ just yuk! So the thing is, if you want an easy drive to the zoo stay somewhere near the 163 but don't expect it to be very scenic. Sea World is right off the beach areas If you don't mind a slightly longer drive there are still a few mom and pop hotels in BirdRock which is half way between PB and LaJolla and a block from the ocean, I would stay there. Look for places on La Jolla Blvd. Cab is cheap to PB for partying after and cab is cheap to LaJolla for breakfast and scenery the next day in LaJolla. Birdrock to zoo=30 minutes Birdrock to Sea World=15 minutes
