Is the place you work hiring? I've been thinking of an S5 recently...

If you can get that kind of a deal, then do it. The "value proposition" comparisons to Mazda and VW won't matter. And if you're not planning on keeping the car more than a few years, then you're not too likely to have any serious mechanical issues - at least if our car is an example. (Longer term issues like the replacement of 2(!) clutches when the DSG needs rebuilding still worries me a bit - as does the FSI system....)

But seriously, about that S5?

If you really want great mileage with lots of room check out the Honda Fit!

I had a 2000 A6 2.7t I never had a single problem with it and it was not under powered at all. You must have had the natuarally aspirated 2.8? There was also a 4.2 liter that really had some giddy-up. Not really fair to say you had an underpowered 2000 A6 and not let everyone know what power plant you had.

As for my A6, I absolutely loved it! I only sold it because I got a company car and no longer needed it. Even still I kept it for about 8 months because I just did not want to sell it. Great car and great customer service at Audi. I would have to agree with Foo, you need to go see if your big a$$ can fit in one.

Doug why don't you come down to the Volvo Dealership and look at the V50. I am looking to buy real soon I bet if we went into the dealership with the option to buy two Volvos they would give a hell of a deal . I love the look of the Audi but Duan is right on about the Audi/VW. My uncle is one of the head mechanics at VW/Audi and he drives a chevy but my aunt has a sick passat. He told me that if he did not work for them and not get such a killer deal he would not buy from them.

Jedi Mind trick Volvo V50 Volvo V5 Volvo V50 Volvo V5 Volvo V50 Volvo V5 Red Sox Rule Volvo V50 Volvo V5 Volvo V50 Volvo V5 Angels Suck Volvo V50 Volvo V5 Volvo V50 Volvo V5 !!!!

I'm 6-2 and fit fine. (The seat is height adjustable, so I sometimes have a hard time getting in after my wife drives!) Not a lot of leg room in the rear seat after I get comfortable, though.

you got lucky with the A6 2.7t there was a span of years where the "F" hose (feed the left bank turbo oil) would go out and would KILL the turbo...and changing out the turbos on those A6 and S4 required the drop of the motor ca ching!!! But dam that 2.7T had some scoot to it when you chipped and put on an exhaust.

Arrrrrrggggghhhhhhhh It went memorable ran into ahhh man I forgot the guys name that rode with us last Tuesday on 29er Ventana anyways ran into him as I was leaving he was coming in. I had issues with the chain ring bolts and actually lost one on my last climb out. Yea I won't lie I was doing some walking up the hills but I can see how if I keep riding the SS its going to make me a stronger rider. The funny thing is as I was having to get out of the saddle I kept looking for the shifters but they were not their. Also riding a hard tail was rough on the teeth fillings took some time getting used to again.

'zactly. That's why I sold my S4 while it was still in the warranty period, even though it was a "post-F-hose / new badges" car. Of course, if you did burn the stock turbos out, that was a perfect excuse to go the K04 route.

Did love that thing: Stasis suspension, GIAC chip, exhaust. And snow tires 6 months out of the year.

Ok, enough Audi stuff from me.

Well some of the pumps are failing and some other cam or something the pump runs off of off the engine is prematurely wearing.
FSI = direct fuel injection. The injector is in the combustion chamber and not the intake port. It sprays gas in when the piston approaches the top of the compression stroke. Since the pressure inside the cylinder is really high, fuel pressure has to be even higher so it can spray out. The advantage is that when the fuel is injected this way, it cools off (remember PV=nRT from your science classes). Cooler temps means you can run a higher compression ratio, which means you get more power.

BMW 335i uses the same setup (turbo + direct inj.). There are/were a lot of people who had failed high pressure fuel pumps complaining on the internet but the consensus is that they've got the problem solved now. I've got 14K on mine and it hasn't died yet, anyway :P

BTW, these cars need to run premium gas because they're turbo, not because of the FSI. Cadillac's new CTS has direct injection and it's designed to run on 87 octane gas despite having a 12:1 compression ratio.

Chipped, Exhaust, 4.2 polished wheels, can't remember which spring/shock combo I had, but I loved that thing. Also, sold it before the warranty period was up.
