I pieced together my first computer and installed everything. Only one problem. I don't think it is working. I plug it in and turn it on, yet no fans even start up. Is it a bad power supply or is the fan temperature sensitive or something? I don't have a voltmeter so I can't test the voltage or anything. It a corsair 750W power supply

Try a different fan. I have gotten bad ones before.

Yes, the fan should turn on when it's powered up. Check the connection and if it's OK go get a new fan. From the looks of things the computer is working. Just leave the case off till you get the fan working.

Ok, maybe i have a bad PSU. I plug everything in and turn it on and the fans sort of jitter a little. They don't actually spin, just looks like they want to and then done. The LEDs turn on. After about 1-2 seconds though, the LEDs would turn off and the fans would stop trying to move.

First thing I'd do is to check you're getting proper voltage to the fan. If not you may have already fried it.

Sounds like your 12volt (yellow and white usually and 4 prong) connector from the power supply to the mobo is not plugged in. The connector is usually located behind the cpu, near the back of the chassis. Also, be sure the switch on the outside of the PSU is on 110 and not 220V.

have you tried this, many people who builds computer tends to forget this simple thing to do, i too sometimes forget to do this. When i'm done and finish putting my whole system together.
There's a little power switch in the back of your PSUnit, its the main switch, have you try turning that to on? I usually switch it off and unplugg it just in case some one decided to plug it in without my knowledge and try turning it on. If that doesn't turn on or see any blinking lights, you may have a bad PSU. Also, check the PSU if its enough power to power your system. I use a 600w PSU to power my computer for my desktop.

Ok, new problem if anyone has ever heard of this before.
So I turn it on to install windows XP professional with service pack 2 (32-bit version) and it wont install. I had a pioneer DVD player that had a SATA connection and I couldn't even get to where you get to press enter to install windows. Switched that out with the same DVD player but with an IDE connection and then I could get to where you press enter. (with the SATA DVD drive the error that it would show was one saying that no hard drive was detected) So now I go to install windows and it says that I have no hard drive (my HD has a SATA connection). I tried plugging in my external hard drive (USB connection) and it detected it and would let me install windows on it. So would you say this is a problem with windows XP? I have heard of drivers not being installed and needed to install them from a floppy (which my motherboard can not use). Or is it a problem with the SATA connectors on the motherboard? Or is it a problem with the hard drive? I am getting sick and tired of going to frys and returning components that don't work. And I am mad that I spent a lot of money and cant get it to work. So far everyone has been dumbfounded with my problems. |

Is your BIOS seeing the drive? If yes, then go into your the Peripherals section of the BIOS and change your SATA drive to NATIVE IDE mode. That usually does the trick. I'm assuming you're not running RAID-0 or RAID-1 and just have one physical harddrive.
