Fair enough, my point was that it isn't the only path to success. I for instance, never dropped out, because I never started. I'm not a millionaire, but for a 27 year old, I do quite well. Nearly all my friends went to school, and the only ones clearly making more cash than me, are in sales. They likely could have got the same job without a degree.

My girlfriend Liz has a master's degree from USC, and with it comes 100k in student loans, but her salary is just over half of mine.

Do NOT take this as a message that school is bad, quite the opposite, just that there are other paths to success that work better for some people.

You lost me here, Beth. Unless footloose and fancy free means having a mortgage I can't afford and having 16 people renting rooms just so I can pay the bills!

What I hate are the DRRRRRRREAMS (or should I call them nightmares?) ABOUT school/projects due/final exams/graduating that persist years after you've already graduated!!!

I've been out of college for 2 years now and I STILL wake up some mornings thinking "O SH!T, I didn't study for my exam", accompanied by that yucky feeling, until I fully awake and realize I've ALREADY graduated... LOL Those dreams suck!

I think I have school ass backwards then, trying to balance being broke all the time and working and going to school 6-7 days a week. I think I would much rather go back to the workforce full time, I would do it but I wouldn't make as much unless I have this little piece of paper I'm working for right now.

i wont lie... school is hard. School is fun. School is worth it in the end. Its something to be proud of, and it is not JUST a piece of paper you walk away with. You learn the foundations of the career path you choose, and are taught the rest in the professional world.

Would i trade school for a non skilled labor job? Hell no.

So though i complain about being in school, i know for ME, it is the right thing to do... and some days i actually enjoy it

Agreed! Degrees does not necessarily mean more money, but it just opens more doors if you are looking to become an employee. A degree does not mean that you are more capable. I have many people with MBA's and even PHD's that can't hack the work they have. If you are looking to run your own business, that is a whole different ball game! Good luck!

Every year in the summer, I start getting back-to-school nightmares (I'm a teacher).

It will come in time. You are doing the hard, responsible part now. Kudos to you. Your day will come.

I'm a teacher and for the past week I've been grading 120 research papers, but I still think school is great. The grading part sucks and finals week always hurts, but college is way more fun than what others are doing. Besides, summers are fabulous! Right now I'm trying to decide which vacations to go on this summer and how to include riding, it's tough making decisions! When you grow up and get a real job you most likely won't ever have that kind of time and freedom again. Enjoy!!!

I used to have dreams about going back to school on the first day of the year and finding myself naked while lecturing to 11th grade students.

Now that's a nightmare!

Hey, I'm in my 40's I come home to my daughter who wants no money, I have no credit card bills, and a wife who greets me in her lingerie and asks "You hard working man, what would you like me to do for you or would you like to ride your bike ..... "

Real Life must have passed me by..

Ahh I'd love to be one of those full-time students who gets to somehow come up with the money to travel the world during vacations and ride to their hearts content. Actually I'd just love to be a full time student but instead I'm a full time Dad, full time husband, full time government employee and full time broke off my butt....and I get to be these things long into the future with 2 girls and a boy! I love them to death but sometimes the road not travelled can be so enticing.

I guess its just the grass is always greener, cause I'd take the studying, the craming and all of that over the prospect of managing a pool with 12 dead beat lifeguards for the next 4 months!

I plan on working very hard to avoid all that. I've been cash only for years: no more credit for me.

Summer school = no vacation. Actually it's worse since financial aid cuts out and I have to work full-time and go to school. Though lifguarding hardly seems like work sometimes...

Get as much education as you can, either by school, by trade, by mentor or self. Get as much out of the education as you can. Work as hard as you can, when you can. Play as hard as you can, when you can. Have Goals not Dreams, but enjoy your Dreams. Find a balance and enjoy each day whether you are in school, work or play.

BTW, I did college on the cheap, 2 YRS Community 3 yrs Cal State it was great! and has served me well: BSEE

Ahhhh....you have those dreams too? I've been out of high school for 15 years and ALWAYS have nightmares. I'm at my current age with my current job; however, I'm back at high school trying to pass exams that I'm ill-prepared for.

I still have them occasionally many years later, usually involve the classic, haven't gone to a single class all semester and now have to take the final to graduate. Often in the dream I think, "Wait I have already Graduated" but it doesn't seem to matter/help.
