Yeah, go to SDSU, study Criminal Justice, set up a drug traffcking ring and then get sent to jail for a couple decades. The UC system is where it's at.

Too late to do it now, but it would be interesting to know the ages and occupations of those who are posting on this thread.

I agree. My point was he is making a sh*t load of money from student loans.

Yeah the exterior of the house is nice. The inside is quite revolting though. Money can't buy you taste.

Wow, you opened a can of worms with this one Dood!

Let me put in economic terms that we can all understand. If you're ultimate passion is riding, then look at this way, if you tough it out in school, it will make the difference on whether you hit the trails with a Next POS or a [insert chi-chi blinged-out boutique bike of your choice].

My degrees are what allow me to ride a Turner w/ bling, drive to any trail I want, take vacations to ride, and pretty much do anything I want related to MTB.

Yeah, econ sucks, it all sucks. But not having a decent rig, the means to ride, and the time to do it sucks even more.

Buck up dood...your riding depends on it.

If you don't want to go to school, we always need someone to bag groceries, wash my car, etc.

Live it up man...school rocks compared to working full time!

You're right. It's just a scam so the tenured profs can sell new editions of their books every semester.

Exactly! I had to buy my History prof's book this quarter. Pompous ass.

I bought it used so he won't get a royalty check off me. Suck it!

I didn't read every post, but I read far enough to see two themes.

1)Work sucks more than school. TRUE!
2)You need school to succeed. FALSE!

You need drive, experience, people skills, friends, marketable skills, and any combination of many other ingredients to earn money. Sure, college is a fast track to acquiring many pieces of the puzzle. But it is surely not the only way, and only a sheep will tell you that.

Self education is not for the weak at heart. But in my opinion, can be just as effective, and sometimes more efficient than sitting through a bunch of general education courses so that you can earn your degree in something completely unrelated.

Look no further than Bill Gates to see what a driven college drop out can accomplish.

agree...

but if you are whining on a mtb internet site about how school sucks, chances are you are not in the .1% of the worlds population that can skip out on school yet still make millions.

I see that a lot of people bring up Bill Gates as a "drop out success story" but I think a lot of people ignore the main reason he dropped out. I don't think that most people drop out of school for the same reasons.

Good call! I know plenty of successful college drop outs. By and large, they dropped out because they had a plan and had gotten everything they could out of school and were now ready to make it happen.

Dropping out and waiting for it to come to you is not a plan.

I was already successful and making good money before finishing college. Finished my B.A. and my income and position went up. Instead of stopping, I went back for MBA and things get better. It was all part of the plan.

The most important thing is to have a plan. Does it always work out? No. But not having plan never works out.

Dude, just wait until you have to take business microeconomics (if you are a business major). You thought you could forget everything you learned in calculus because you would never need it again. And then, BAM! You're forced to scrape every shred of that sh*t from your memory so you can calculate marginal revenue and price floors and price ceilings and the effect excise taxes have on buyers and sellers. I guarantee you I will never use this sh*t again in my life.

PS - I work full time, go to school full time, support an out-of-work husband with a bike addiction (not pointing the finger!), etc. I'm not complaining since this is the life I chose -- just adding my 2 cents and I wanted to rant about school as well.
