Default Videotaping rides...how much does equipment cost?

I would love to get some helmet or bike-cam action, but I'm not sure what's decent as far as equipment goes. I'm also wondering what other things you would need to buy (total cost for the whole package...battery? Flash drive? etc).

Do any of you STR peeps use a lipstick cam or similar? What's it cost to get decent FPS/resolution to publish riding videos to youtube?

GoPro Digital Hero takes good video, and doesn't cost too much.

There are a bunch of threads on this and if you already have a camcorder with AV input then you only need a lipstick cam/battery which will reduce the cost.

I use a helmetcamera.com lipstick cam, VioSport makes a good one and ...I can not recall the others. I went with the one I did because it has a very strong protective housing that comes with the camera.

Have a read here Pete Fagerlin - camera set-ups

Also, you should look into a good editing software, Adobe Premiere (pricey, big learning curve depending on version), Ulead VideoStudio11 (very user friendly, less pricey), Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 11(very user friendly, less pricey), Sony Vegas (pricey, big learning curve).

You could also use some of the freeware

    Windows Movie Maker
    SNAPFILES AVS Video Editor
    Virtualdub

Also, most of the paid editors have free trials you could check out although they will not have all the features available.

I have not put any new vids up and the ones that are up are a years old from when I first started to try and edit videos and you can see the YouTube quality HERE
Just remember YouTubes compresses your videos into their format and the quality is not always the best.

I use the Oregon Scientific ATC2K it is very inxpensive and a good camera to cut your teeth on...easy to use...decent video...I also just use Windows Movie(installed w/ XP) to edit....so the total cost was less then $100

Justin actually got a GoPro and the quality is really pretty good IMO straight from the camera. Obviously when uploaded to youtube the quality goes down really rapidly.

If I remember I'll try to get something posted up to vimeo.com from it. He hasn't used it in awhile, but I think we need to empty the card and start taping again. It was pretty sweet, actually. Especially with some of the cool Vail singletrack we've been riding. Maybe he and Luke can follow each other this Thurs and get some video.
