Any of you use nose clips? The one I bought didn't even stay on one lap. Are there nose plugs? I just need something that works. Water in my nose destroys me for a day and a half where my nose won't stop running nonstop. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Exhale when your face is in the water, same thing when doing flip-turns. Other than that the only noseclips I've seen are made by TYR and you can get them at any sporting goods store that sells Speedo-style swimsuits (Paradowski's down here, SportChalet or Big 5 other places).

I don't like 'em; feels like I can't breathe. Good luck.

My sister use to use these are like these for synchronized swimming. May or may not be the exact one but you can bend then to make them as tight as needed. I do remember she has them tight, she would have lil marks when she was done. Them may not be tight enough.

I have never had a problem , neither did she but you have to use them for the synchronized swimming.

I do exhale when my face is under water. I just think my sinuses are really sensitive.

it is something that you get used to. nose clips do make you feel like you truly can't breathe.

So how do I get my nose to not run after swimming?

I read recently that Ian Thorpe was allergic to chlorine and had to use nose clips.

sudafed? keeps my nose a lot less runny when I scuba dive. Im no dr but maybe give it a shot when you swim, it should dry up your nose.

my wife's allergic to chlorine as well and swam for about 15 years- it's strangely common in swimmers.

i doubt he uses one at the Olympics.

my wife and i run a swim team of some 65 kids- not one uses a nose clip.

you're not- it's a learning thing air, in through the mouth, out through the nose (not entirely, but some out through the nose really helps).

are you doing flipturns on freestyle yet? that'll get water up your nose.

actually, pool swimmers don't have it as bad as ocean- for some reason salt water penetrates better. got me as to why!

A Really stupid observation/advice.

1) You do know to "Lean over and drain each side/sinus when you are done" That helps me a lot, rather than it staying in / trickling out over the next hour.

2) BTW...In through the mouth Out through the nose helps, (that how I do it most of the time) but I still get water in my sinuses.

3) You can get nasal saline/wash/rinse type stuff, and rinse yourself afterwards that may help. I do that after yucky lake, bay etc swims. Spray rinse in ...then see Step 1

I would rather take in ocean water vs pool water when swimming! idk maybe its the salt vs chlorine

Why dont you buy really small tampons for your nose?
They'd probly absorb the water though

I just swam 1k 20 minutes ago...no water in my nose.

I try not to inhale water through that port.

Not as easy to control when surfing though...be careful where it drains!

it's like i tell swimmers after they've inhaled too much water and are on the wall coughing:

"you're not a fish! breathe air!"

I'm so compassionate.

Padre: out of curiosity, how long does it take you to swim 1 km?

Not that you asked me but for Xterra I am looking for 1.5K ~27-30 min (if I have a good day)

1K I have been as low as 17min upto 20

I don't swim as much as I used to but I seem to be able to remember my form. Never did do any competitive swimming.. just prepping for Tri's and body surfing.
