The city can be beautiful also. You just need to have a plan. Goals.

This just can't be on the second page yet...so i'll bump it 'cause i thought of some new goals.

-to ride to the top of White Mountain from Big Pine this summer
-to actually ride mammoth a whole lot harder this summer than last
-learn to stop and take pictures so can post better RRs
-learn to speak french
-get on a podium again - i haven't done that since swimming in high school!

It's just an idea I've been kicking around for a while.

I know of a couple ways to do it, either the long climb up to Westgard pass on pavement, then north on the road to Bristlecone Pine Preserve, where it goes to dirt, and then 8(?) more miles to the locked gate where i have camped before to hike the summit - the trail to the top from there is another 12 miles, all over 12,000 feet. The other way climbs some really steep jeep trails out east of Chalfant, just north of Bishop. I don't know as much about that route, simply because i haven't done it. Yet. I do know that the elevation gain will be brutal, and the thin air will be too. Which to me sounds fun, in a masochistic way. Nice thing is, after summiting it's 30 miles or so of descending back to Big Pine!
