CR: Duran-Duran @ The Nokia Theatre...

I was nice enough (I know, what a guy) to let my girlfriend talk me into going to see Duran Duran last night @ The Nokia Theatre in Downtown LA with her and 2 other couples. What we do for SO's sometimes.

I was no fan prior to the show and am now less of a fan. Those guys are awful! Sorry but not my cup of tea nor genre of music. Might be for some just not for me. Ironically, When I was 19 or 20, I took my 16 year old sister and her friend to see Duran Duran. Even though she had bought me an extra ticket, I choose to stay true to my (hesher/stoner) kind and stayed in the car and managed to get very wasted alone. I couldn't exactly do that now, even if I wanted to.

Cons:
Excruciatingly painful to watch and hear.
"That's not music!" It's all synthesizers with very little actual instruments. Boring!!!
Them guys have aged and some not so well.

Pros:
Nice lobby to hang out in and have cocktails during the show. They even had Bombay Safire gin for my Gin & tonics. This is the first place where Dos Equis beer costs more then my gin and tonic ($9 & $11). Interesting. Us 3 guys managed to sneak out and get lost in the lobby for about 45 minutes during the show. Definitely the highlight of the show.

John Taylor actually plays a pretty good bass.

Dinner @ Roy's Restaurant failed to disappoint, as always. The Ono & Butterfish were divine and the chocolate souffle to wash it all down wasn't so bad either.

Nokia Theatre and still being constructed LA Live seen across the street from The Staples Center is very cool and hip. Downtown LA and Figueroa Street restaurants are really coming around and I anticipate this to only get better. Very cool scene!

Lastly: Women LOVE John Taylor. Hands down, the most popular member of said fruity band.

I'll be at the Nokia tomorrow night for RUSH. This will be my first time at the Nokia. Good to hear things are coming along down there / downtown.

Saw RUSH last summer @ the Hollywood Bowl. My girlfriend came with me and she was amused all the stoners and mullet sporting 40's-50's crowd still sporting cut off jean jackets and clothes from the 80's fitting way too tight. I enjoyed seeing RUSH as I've been a long time fan. I loved watching Neil Pert bang on the drums. Now that's sick talent! Enjoy the show; I'm sure it will be great!
