Default HDMI Cables

Just wanted to share this with my fellow STR friends. If you are in the market for HDMI cables look no further.

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...nplm=TL951LL/A

Apple has made an arrangement with XtremeMac to produce these high quality 7ft HDMI cables for $20. I WISH I would have found this before spending $200 on a pair of Monster HDMI Cables.

Just thought I would pass this on as they are top quality and dirt cheap for HDMI.

This is what I have been using and have been more than satisfied.

Plus they are like $5.00 cheaper than Apple, but they are not white.

I tried cheap cables and they didnt work. Slow video response and choppy feed. Okay maybe not $200 exactly but close to it like $89 each I think. They were long also which adds $ with HDMI.

Tried some like those and they sucked. The new Samsung TV's for some reason dont like cheap HDMI cables. I read alot about it online before buying the TV but the quality of the TV was more important to me than the cable.

I go to my cable company ask for one. They say yes and hand me one.

Out of curiosity, how do you get a "better" signal out of "better" HDMI cables when it's a digital signal? It's like a light switch, on or off, no?

Reminds me of "shielded" fiber optic cables that Monster used to sell. I had a friend who swore it sounded better. LOL

There are different quality cables but I am not expert to bust out equations. You can read up on them online or hit up a best buy or cc and checkout the different cables and their processing speeds, etc... Certain HDMI cables will never process 1080p signal I found out as well. You may think youre getting it but you arent. I saw the difference demonstrated for me.

Don't know if you guys have seen this or not:

Not sure how this correlates with HDMI cables, but it's an interesting read.

have you done research on this because i saw a study done by an independend company who tested this theory that expensive cables are better and they found that they are not, as long as the cable is gold plated its the same, i dont remember where i saw this report but you can easly google it and find butloads of info, i have used the same HDMI cable that i got for 7 dollars from monoprice for 2 years and my HD is still crisp and clean.

I just ordered an HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Silver-Plated Copper CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) - 6ft (Gold Plated Connectors) for $13.27 from Monoprice. I'll find out if they are any good in 3-4 days.

Best argument EVAR! "I don't know for myself, but if you go read the internets, I'm sure you can find information that backs me up!"

Surely you have better sources for unbiased and scientifically accurate information than displays and retail packaging from Best Buy and Circuit City?!

HDMI is a DIGITAL SIGNAL. Please explain how anything beyond basic quality cables that meet the current HDMI cable standard can enhance a digital signal?

Far be it from me to be an expert, so please correct me with something other than "go read the internet" if I am mistaken.

Please keep emotions under control - they're just cables.

The better quality cables have a bigger diameter and therefore hit obstacles in the trail at a different angle. Your toes are more likely to run into them though...

There are several versions of the HDMI specification, with varying degrees of bandwidth requirements. The actual wire used within the cable wrap needs to meet the requirements to carry certain bandwidths. That being said, most HDMI cables will work on any HDMI specification. I don't believe in $200 cables .

HDMI is digital but is composed by modulating a 400-500mV signal within the wires (the actual voltage is determined by the version of the HDMI you are using). So, technically it should be possible to interrupt or otherwise interfere with the signal in the wire, but it isn't very likely.

Good choice.

FYI....The HDMI 1.3a standard specifies increased bandwidth of 340 MHz (10.2 Gbit/s) which is a ~double over HDMI 1.1 and 1.2. As others have noted digital is digital, there is not degradation of the signal/data, however, the increased bandwidth/i.e frequency of the data can be an issue under certain cases (extremely long distances etc).

Connectors, Manufacturing & QC can also be skimped on as well as the basic materials, but assuming quality there should be no trouble.

A 1.3a rated cable (assuming a trustworthy supplier) whether expensive or cheap should provide the same/excellent results.

BTW monoprice is a trustworthy supplier.
