Default VBS.tv: Garbage Island

Judging by the thread on Vail Lake, some of you don't see issues with the destruction of stuff.

For you others, check out this documentary by VBS.tv. It's about the large "floating" mass of garbage/plastic in the Pacific Ocean. It is a 12 part series, and they have currently posted up 5 parts. If you've never even heard of this before, you might be surprised.

I read about this somewhere. Most people don't know about this. Thanks for the heads up!

Un-effing-believable! When my kids were little I would always tell them that anything they throw on the ground would end up in our oceans. Neither of them will throw so much as a gum wrapper on the ground (it usually ends up in the lint filter of our cloths dryer )

Wired Science did a piece on this last year I think. The Pacific Gyre is the current responsible for getting all the trash in one place. More info here.

Thanks for teaching your kids one of the most valuable lessons in life to help the Earth!

I do the same with my kids. Whenever I take them on hikes or rides I always make a point to bring out some trash that someone left. It's a small effort we can easily do to make the trails more enjoyable for everyone.

I think Best Life magazine had an article about this last year. Not to get on the soapbox, but pollution is a really bad problem. There are many things we do, without thinking about the consequences. I admit that I too am guilty..

Wow.
I just watched episodes 1-6. I can't wait till 6-12 are up.
It makes my heart sad to think of what it will take to change our consumable lifestyle.

Yeah, when we go to the beach we make a game of who can pick up the most trash on the way to the car.

is there any satellite photos of this island? if it's something that's that huge you would think it would be visible from those high tech satellites?
