Default New Car

So yeah, right now I own a 2006 Nissan Titan but am thinking about getting a new car. I'm so tired of paying $$$ to feel up my gas guzzling 12mpg truck. I've been looking at the new Toyota Corolla LE or S models. Going from a 5.6L engine to a 1.8L, wow what a difference but I will have cheaper car payments and as for gas instead of paying over $300 a month It would probably be around $150. What do you think about those cars?

I would suggest looking into a Honda Civic--has better resale value than a Toyota Corolla or a maybe Honda Fit.

Looks much better too. If you want to stick with toyota, look at the tC or the xD. Either way, hatchback is the way to go. Much more versatile.

Have you seen the new Corolla? Its really not to bad looking. I do like the Scion but the tC is to small and I think the xD is so ugly.

Honda element rocks! I average 24mpg and still fit 2 bikes inside.

Civic gets well over 30mpg and way more fun to drive than boring corolla. Civic also has way more safety options like side airbag, traction control......all included.

27mpg highway is pretty good and it's got space to boot.
It'll probably be our next car. Too bad there is no manual tranny option. The element with the same engine gets only 24mpg highway.
Also look at the mazda3 hatch and the toyota matrix.

Just as a reference, my 06' Matrix Xrs got a little over 35mpg comming back from Tahoe just a few weeks ago(avg. 75+mph the whole time). The versatility is great! Not the most powerful car out there but it's no slouch either.

Those aren't fair pictures for comparison. Kinda like comparing a mug shot with a glamor shot

BUT beauty is always in the eyes of beer holder! Some people like one style better that's all.

The new corolla has vastly improved...finally! I'm a honda fan so go figure. I've had 3 toyotas so far and all of them had some problems one way or the other.....this may not be fair since they were all used.

BUT if you want a quiet smooth ride corolla is a winner. If you want better handling, more safety features on base models, better resell the civic is the winner.

Just my opinion though. There are tons of corolla lovers out there.

I had a TrailBlazer and Man! was I tired of the gas issues! I sold it to Carmax. Got more for it than I would have trading it in, but didn't want to wait to see if I could get someone to buy it private party.... So, I bought a Toyota Corolla S model. Put some black out window tint on it an a tow hitch for a wheel tray bike rack! I get 25-35 miles to the gallon. Trust me, I need it. I drive to Hemet and Mission Viejo every week! I love the little car. It doesn't have the pick up and go that I would like, but once it's at speed, it's awesome. (be careful though, tomorrow I have to sit in traffic school for a speeding ticket! haven't had one of those in Years!!!) My payments are 208. per month. well worth it compared to the 400+ I was putting in my tank on the other car.

Does car max offer better trade in value then a dealer would? What year is your Corolla?

do you need a car? can you get away with a small pickup? don't know why everybody hates American vehicles but I owned a 4 cylinder S10 that was getting close to 34 mpg.

I have an element also and I've rallycrossed it a few times couple of years ago. It was pretty funny when I won the class in it! The looks on the STI and Evo owners were precious! Although, I really didn't care for the way the powertrain kept going from front to all wheel drive. I had to keep changing the driving style in the middle of the turn to compensate! The key to driving it was early set up for the corner.

The interior room of the Scion tC is deceptive. I have fit three bikes into the back and can fit our two XL Giant Reigns in the back and they do not even obscure the view through the rear window.

The headroom of the tC was also better than that of the Civic in my model year (05), but the newer Civic may have improved there.

The thing with the tC is that the engine is a 2.4 litre (it's a Camry drivetrain) and won't sip the fuel quite as lightly as a Corolla or Civic with their 1.8 litre, but they are more 'peppy' and downright fun to drive.

Of course, looks are a matter of taste, but I have noticed the new Civic looks a lot more 'tC-like' this year. The tC also keeps a pretty good resale value.

Or do what my hubby (1x1clyde) did and buy a Baja Bug for $800.00 do some work on it and keep the Titan for when you need a truck (2007 Titan & 2006 Armada owners here). The gas went from $80+ a week to $25.00 for 2 weeks, the thing runs great, plus the insurance of the Bug is like $12.00 a month

Probably not. They're in a business of selling used cars. They're selling prices are pretty low, so they got to make a profit somewhere.
My co-worker went to get his Ram250? diesel appraised there. First he ask how much they were selling for and they found a few for around $36k with 15k miles or so. Then when he ask what he could get for his with only 5K miles on it, they only offered 25K and said diesels are hard to sell and sit on the lot awhile. Just the opposite response he got from another representative of carmax when he was shopping.
