Any of those cars will be a big improvement gas-wise and car-payment-wise. Kudos for downsizing. The corolla and civic look pretty similar. Get whichever one you like best. I do think the Corolla looks nice. Plus, don't they have a sporty trim version too?

I had one and was not impressed. Fuel econ was not great. Also noisey little bugger.

With smoother lines it would get better fuel econ and cut down on the wind noise.

Also it only seats 4

It is nice not taking your wheel off to put your bike in it

I would like a smaller version of the Dodge Sprinter

Actually from the research I've done.carmax does buy used cars for more than the dealer (of course not as much as a private sale but that's more work). But DON'T expect to get blue book or whatever B.S. trade-in value the calculaters online tell you. They go by (correct me if I'm wrong on the name) the auto wholesale auction prices which are MUCH lower than anything listed online. Of course my experience has been with a CRAPPY kia so it may be different with cars that actually retain some sort of value (ie Toyota, Honda). You're right though, they do buy them back SUPER cheap though so they can make a profit! If a dealer has given you a good trade-in price they're probably making up the lost money from somewhere else like your interest rates or your new car price. Better to sale privately if you don't mind the hassle.

Wow ton of Honda lovers where's the Totoya people? Don't have anything against Honda whatsoever, just don't have experience with them. My family has owned nothing but Toyotas for the last 15 years, mostly Camrys and Corollas. NEVER had a problem (they were all bought new though)! Really reliable! I had been wanting a new car for a while and thought I wanted a corollla ( I LOVE how they drive!) but then I realized if I got a Matrix (basically its a Corolla with a hatchback) I could fit my bike without taking any of the tires off. So I did tons of research, called EVERYWHERE, and got a 2008 XR for 17k out the door. Not too shabby! I love it!

Good luck and just remember the $$ you're saving in gas when you miss the power!

For what it's worth - my sister bought a camry SE from carmax recently and had a much more pleasant experience than most other dealers she went. Less hassle and less pressure.

It'll probably be our next car. Too bad there is no manual tranny option. The element with the same engine gets only 24mpg highway.
Also look at the mazda3 hatch and the toyota matrix.
27mpg highway sucks. I get 49 to 50 mpg... VW jetta, with a bike rack in the hitch receiver and 65 mph. Speeding doesn't pay.

Check out the latest Road and Track or Car and Driver. Both have articles on small cars. Right now I have an 06 Mazda3 and I love it. The car really works for me and my lifestyle perfectly; I can put a bike in the back if I want without taking the front wheel off, snowboards in the back, bodies, anything else.

BUT if I had to do it all over again I would strongly consider the Honda Fit, simply because of the better mpg. I get about 28ish mpg with my conservative driving which isn't bad at all but more mpg is always better.

Not trying to thread jack but that is the first time I've seen a small size SUV in a rallycross. I know for AutoX there is a height restriction in the SCCA manual.

I was a little skeptical about Carmax and then ended up finding the car I was looking for there online. I went to look at it and to my surprise, I bought it....

I paid low blue book on it and the car was CLEAN!! there was a couple of things missing(jack and misc tools for changing the spare) but Carmax had no problem buying me whatever was missing and did it w/o hesitation.

Also the paperwork was easy and since I paid low blue book, I of course didnt need to bitch about the price...

Now if you SELL a car to them, be careful because they will only pay you what your car at an auction would cost them to buy....

Overall id give Carmax a
