Default Is this normal for a bike shop

So I went to jax to get my warranty pedals. Mind you I spent over 600 dollars at the store.Well I get the pedals and they charge my 5 bucks for shipping. Its only 5 dollars but still.

That sounds like standard protocol for Jax, which is why I don't shop there anymore.

Danny, you told me about your situation with Jax when we rode Monday. My advice -FWIW- is find another shop to patronise! Good to hear you have your pedals back though!

Well I just called my shop and spoke to the manager and he said yeah, they would charge. It's pretty typical. he said warranties don't cover shipping charges.
I was mistaken. so there ya go.

why should the shop pay for shipping? not that I dont think JAX sucks just why should the shop suck up the shipping fees? Did they charge you for their time and effort or for packing the item?

dont get me wrong I hate JAX well actually I hate Dave Hanson (owner) And im not trying to be a dick or unsympathetic to your cause. You stated that you spent $600.00 in a shop and became upset when you were charged shipping to send back a warranty item. Next time ship it back yourself it might be alot cheaper and most companies cover shipping back to you.

I shipped my CB pedals back at the post office and it cost me like $3.75. $1.25 seems like a pretty reasonable handling fee. Going to the post office sucks.

I'd also like to say that I recently went to Jax and they didn't act like total douche bags. I even got a "discount" down to full retail. I think they may be improving/sucking less. Which is good, because the LB shop is super convenient for me.

I've never paid a dime for any of my warranty claims.

The other day I special ordered a part from Jenson. When I went to pick it up at Corona, I actually broke it right in front of them. Granted, the part was a helmet light mount made of flimsy plastic that probably had a defect, but still, no questions asked, they took it back and ordered me a new one.

A customer, IMO, should not be responsible for any warranty charges. Should a shop incur the charges? That's between them and their vendors and manufacturers. Either way, you can't rationalize charging a customer for a warranty claim.

It is kind of the industry standard to charge for shipping and labor on warranty issues. I know it's weird, and it does not sit well with me.

I have heard that in the auto industry, they give dealers labor credit for warranty work. We have tried to work stuff like this our with our vendors, and we have continually been shot down.

At The Path, we know how customers feel about paying any charge for a warranty. We cover all shipping and labor for warranty issues on items purchased here. This has always been our policy.
