I'm doing my first triathlon in June at Redondo beach. Any one done one before? I'm wondering what kind/ thickness wet suits most people wear. I'm guessing a thin 3 mil, or do they have suits made for triathlons? Any other info or web sites for tri's would be helpful to.

Zoots are good, but expensive. I personally do better without them as they keep me high in the water and throw my balance off. But if the waters to cold then you've got to have it. Less is more in this case though. If you're not going to be doing them on a regular basis, I'd consider just trying to make it through the swim without one.
What distance are you doing? I personally like the International or the Olympic distance. If this is your first though, you may just want to start with a sprint distance. If I could of improved my swimming time I would of stuck with it, but I think I have to much lead in my arse and I just sink to much. Good luck, which one are you doing?

c'mon Luke, you can do better than just throw a link at someone...
Yes, they do make triathlon specific wetsuits. For your first tri, I'd recommend renting a full suit: they're warmer and they put you in a better swimmming position (more horizontal = less drag = faster time). Like Pain Freak said, you may not need one if it's short enough. I "trunk it" in the summer when doing ocean workouts (I love people's looks when I jog down the beach in my Speedo, hilarious!). If it's farther than you are comfortable swimming withought the added floatation a wetsuit provides, then get one. Make sure you practice swimming in it and practice taking it off. Going through your transitions a few times before the race will save you time as well. PM me if you have any more questions. I'm warning you now, you may get hooked and it's more expensive than MTB'ing! Above all, have fun! ![]()

I can deal with the cold (56 degrees) water for the most part and dont have a problem swimming in the open water, I just thought a suit would make me a little faster by keeping me more buoyant.
Swimming is a lot harder than I thought it would be, did our first real ocean swim yesterday and it went pretty good just cold getting in but I got use to it real quick. Its a sprint distance, 1/2 mile swim, 2 mile run and 8 bike. Doesnt seem like much to me I just gotta get my swim down more and I'll be ready to kick ass. Its the Redondo Beach Triathlon. And is the order swim run bike? Quote:
