I like that comparison, but even as a former Elise driver, I'll be impressed when the Atom can keep rain off of the driver; until then its just another motorcycle.

here's an update on the GT-R Spec V (for victory), lapping the ring faster than the Carrera GT!

Quote:
The prototype Nissan GT-R V-Spec, wearing the "Victory Specification" designation reserved for the ultra high-performance Nissan GT-R, has been caught lapping the famed Nürburgring at an incredible, if not simply unbelievable, 7:25 per lap. This, according to bystanders trackside. (For comparison, Walter Röhrl lapped the Ring in 7:28 while driving a Porsche Carrera GT in 2004.)

In contrast to the standard Nissan GT-R, that made the run around the 'Ring in 7:38, the GT-R V-Spec has a new front splitter, modified rear spoiler, and different wheels. A more extensive use of carbon fiber has reportedly reduced the weight by upwards of 330 pounds. Of course, Nissan engineers also tweaked the twin-turbo powerplant for another 70 horses... or so. Thanks for the tip, XeroK00L!

I think The Lotus Exige is one of the best looking cars around, the GTR looks HORRIBLE, it's uglier than an inbreed turkey Vulture and it weighs more than if they made it out of bricks!

Though in my opinion, the fastest car for the money would have to be a Miata with an LS1 engine conversion. The LS1 motor is a direct drop in a miata! The LS1 is the same engine used in Corvettes.

BTW Au575, are by any chance a member of Lotustalk.com?

They were talking very complimentary about the GTR last night on Top Gear. Is that the best show on TV or what?

I have to admit, The AC cobras are very nice looking, and when they were made they had the world record for the fastest accelerating car.

Besides being good entertainment it has me in stitches of laughter. The British Leyland car thing last night had tears running down my face

I have driven many many ZO6's ( at least 6 a week) at the auction. They handle like crap in stalk form! Around town there are to many things to hit to have any fun in a fast car that handles like crap.I am a good driver,I raced for awhile and did pretty darn good ( so my opinion is not without experience). I also grew up at the drag strip. My dad and uncle used to race at 64 funny cars. I started driving at 13.Wonder how I ended up becoming a Mechanic?

one day, when I can afford to drive any of these cars, I will reply with my experiences. Until then, I'd take any one of the discussed cars with a smile on my face and a twitch in my right foot.

From what I've been reading though, the new GT-R is a complete beast in spite of its heft and its low (read: corvette region) pricing.

The guy in EVO described it as a Veyron in miniature - presumably in reference to what you point out: beast in spite of heft.

Top Gear saves lives. I think it's funny how they spit on almost everything american and put any car that has anything to do with the U.K. on a pedastal. Although they did name the C6 ZO6 as car of the year or something in 07. They just may be a bit biased. Still probably one of my favorite shows.

All of the above and in the end it's still a street car.... If you want real power and handling use a "real" race car!
