Default Second thoughts about Firefox

Besides little things like crashing once, Firefox doesn't do Bird's eye view with Microsoft's maps.live.com.

Is this a browser war with maps.live.com not serving data to Firefox? I don't want to give up the high resolution aerial photos with multiple viewing angles that cover many trails.

If you frequent MS sites enough, you'll quickly realize such problems are no accidents or bugs. Unless the majority starts using browsers other then IE, that's not about to change. For any MS sites, you'll want to use IE. Now you know why the justice department tried to disassemble Microsoft a few years back.

IE is supposed to conform to the standards soon.

Apple did something funny with Safari: http://www.channelregister.co.uk/200..._eula_paradox/

Well if you want to stick with FireFox you can just use IE Tab to open IE inside of FireFox for those sites that give you trouble.

Hmmm, Birdseye *is* supported in Firefox 2.0+. What is probably happening is there is there is no Birdseye imagery for the area you are looking at. I am looking at Huntington Beach, 92646 Birdseye in Firefox right now. Birdseye is not available everywhere, although the coverage is growing.

I work with VE and their imagery extensively, I would be very interested if you can show me where there is Birdseye in IE and not in Firefox.

There are some issues on Safari (Mac Browser) and VE.

If want to see how it all works you can go here...its and interactive SDK, click on make and stuff and see the code that produces it.

Now that is not to say there *isn't* some browser waring going on for instance when you go to MSDN (MS dev site) it is definitely optimized for IE and up till very recently Firefox wasn't supported at all. IMHO Firefox is the only way to go, rarely use IE. Also Firefox was some really great plug ins...like AdBlock Plus. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Get the IE Tab plugin for Firefox - That way, you can toggle to an IE window on a FF tab w/o opening a second browser.

You're right. Bird's eye is working after I tried again and enabled scripts with noscript. (Didn't see noscripts bar earlier (!?))

Cool yeah noscript is good, but you can almost get too locked down if there is such a thing.

Works just fine for me and I only use FireFox.
Be sure you allow scripts from
live.com and when you switch to aerial view you will also need to allow virtualearth.net and then you can switch to "birds eye view"

Nioscript is my fav... but you need to be aware (as you have noticed) of all the potentially nasty stuff tht could happen.

Here is how mine is set to notify:

"Show Message about blocked script"
"Place message at the bottom"

If you REALLY trust teh site, add them to a whitelist under options...
