Default Marine Mountain Training

They are showing a show on the military channel right now on this subject. I thought it was cool because the Batallion Commander ( col. Mortenson) was my company commander when I was in the corps. He was only a captain at the time.I did this same course in the Sierra Nevada's, winter and summer!Any who, thought I would share If you like gung ho stuff.

I never really liked the Discovery channels Marine vids, like the bootcamp and the winter training ones. I always thought they were poorly made. It always seemed like the other branches had better directing and video.

I take it from the training you mentioned you weren't a P.O.G.

I never did understand the "wiz wheel" i think it was called. You guys had to pack so much crap. I guess you only had to worry about until you picked up rank.

I think what you are referring to is a plotting board ,Its really simple. 360 degrees= 6400 mils then you have elevation. Simple math really. High angle of fire weapon, so it just triangulation and direction using a circle, and knowing the distances a round can travel for a given elevation. That meaning the angle of the mortar tube and the charge on a round.Well it is a little more complicated, but once you try it, it all makes sense.
