My buddy lives in old town Orange and I have to park in his driveway I can't park on the street because the parking enforcement will ticket your car.

I hate those tow truck companies, they work closely with the local security, they actually will give money to the security guards to have stuff towed,

my brother parked at my appartment complex before i moved, he was parked for 15 min to help me with moving something and his car got towed 450 bucks later he can get it back,

its a big scam.

My close friend works for G and W towing here in Costa Mesa. Sometimes its funny because he will be the guy working behind the glass to do the paperwork and take the money. I sometimes late at night will go visit him and some 20 something Newport Beach girls will come in all pisssed off that her car was towed and he say to me "oh yea time for me to get my game face on". He loves it.

One story he did a lockout (someone locked keys inside car) and he got the car unlocked in under ten seconds and then charged 45 bones for the service. The guy said that is crazy I am not going to pay that so my friend threw the keys back inside the car and locked the door. The guy said he was sorry and said he just wanted his keys back. My friend opened the door again and proceeded to charge him 90 bones 45 bones * 2.

Sorry, beg to differ on this.
Have you ever heard of something called "First Flush"?
this is the time where all your inlanders' crap washes from the street into the storm drain, down the urban rivers and back onto MY beach.

Street sweeping should be REQUIRED weekly, and all the storm drain inlets should have steel screen on them to prevent stuff from getting into the ecosystem.

Oh yeah, all you smokers out there should keep your butts out of the street too...

It's karma - if you would have gone on the Fully ride with us last night, you'd have your car, sweet memories of the wild mustard slapping your face and your dilbert No-Show friend would still owe you money.

That's what I was going to say. If it was towed for tags, you may have a legitimate beef with the tow company.

But, it sounds like it was towed for street sweeping.

Nope. Serious as a heart attack.
C'mon down for the event. It is really an eye opener.

I lived 'at the beach' for ten years myself. I know how it works. I just take exception to the notion that the beach is YOURS and not mine and that the difference in where we live and our proximity to the coast somehow makes me more responsible for what washes down the storm drain.

Well, we are all responsible for OUR trash.
Sorry if I offended with the MY Beach comment, but IMHO anyone who purports that street sweeping is a crock obviously doesn't understand the downstream impact.

And yes, those upstream ARE responsible for the majority of what flows down. Certainly the beach community disposes of our garbage at inland landfills so we do share in the responsibility... but how many times do you refuse a plastic bag at the store because you realize how many of these make it to the ocean?

Not to get all preachy or anything but plastic in the marine environment is one of the most dangerous things both near and long term.

Encourage every city to sweep weekly and to put filters on the collectors. The impact would be amazing.

so much for using the money to build up my DJ bike
Don't they have to call it in to see if it's truly expired before towing? If it's registered the tags don't matter. Someone could have taken them.

Well, how much did you pay for YOUR beach?

As Jeff pointed out they really do nothing but move the dirt out of the gutter back up into the street.

Do you believe people who live at the beach don't litter just as much as people inland?

Sounds to me that if a tow truck company is impounding up your vehicle while the tags are still valid then shouldn't they be charged with grand theft??

The PD won't tow a vehicle unless its over 6 months on the registration and even then I've known cops not to tow a car if it has a baby seat in it or have a disabled placard. As far as impounding immediately for street sweeping, that seems a bit harsh. Ticket yes, but towing is really heavy handed.
