After getting the full story and seeing where she used to shoot up, I asked her about the cig habit. She replied, "I can't quite kick it."

Maybe they need a methadone program for cigarets.

Started smoking when I was 15, smoked all the way through High School and was a jock (wrestling, hockey, lacrosse) and was into martial arts. Smoked until I was 22 and had a job at a Advertising company doing photostat (print ready) and graphic art work. Could not smoke in the "shop" as it could damage artwork and cameras and had to work 24 hours straight. Realized I had not smoked for 24 hours and never smoked again, with the exception of the occasional cigar.

Never.

No offense, but it's gross

My younger sister has done a lot of stupid stuff (and continues to do so) but of everything, picking up smoking about 1.5 years ago or so was by far the dumbest thing she's ever done IMO.

I smoked for 26 years. Camel non filters, mostly. I smoked about a pack a day but surfed a lot . Then I quit surfing and assumed I was still in shape, until one day I tried a mountain bike. I rode it 300 feet up a very gradual climb. I thought I was gonna die. From about that moment on I knew I was going to quit. Smoking finally caused my mothers death, and that woke me up. The same day I quit smoking, I bought a mountain bike. Hardest thing to accept is how long I waited to quit.

Now I can't stand the damn things and my wife still smokes a couple packs a day. Thankfully none of my kids smoke.

I've never smoked, but I used to work for a guy who was life-long smoker. One day he asked his youngest son what he wanted for his eighth birthday. His kid looked him in the face and said, "Dad, all I want is for you to stop smoking."

The kid's comment really got into my boss's head. It was tough, but he quit. That's about the coolest thing I've ever seen a father do for his son.

Smoked for 25 yrs.
cigs the last 10 of them....
Not sure which was worse, but the cigs cost less!

quit everyting in '99, and don't miss any of it.
Feel better, breath better, not blowing the $$...
The one thing is on really hard climbs its like I have a hard time getting enough
oxygen... permanent damage I think! ( thats my excuse for being slow, and I'm sticking to it!)

Was never a cigarette smoker (used to have a thing for the Djarums on occasion).........preferred the botanical variety during my college life. Now, my allergies are so horrific, I can't deal with any of it, including the cush.

i started smoking occasionally a couple years back because i always liked the smell (nostalgic i guess).

I smoke about 1/2 pack a day, more when I'm drinking. I haven't yet noticed any adverse effects, 'cept maybe a bit of a cough every now and then, but I have decided that I want to quit this summer. Just gonna keep going through school and give it a good try when i'm out of school for the summer.

Biggest concern for me is the $$, that's bike parts I could be buying!

I quit smoking a year ago TODAY! No joke.

I smoked about 1/2 pack a day, sometimes more and sometimes less. Started smoking weed when I was about 18 and somehow picked up smoking tobacco at around 22 or so when I started drinking more. First I'd bum a clove here and there, then I picked up a pack of my own. Somehow I got into rolling my own smokes for a while and that's when I realized I was hooked. When I finally settled into the habit at around 24 years old I'd smoke American Spirits, Mild Seven and Caster (and other Japanese brands). I married a Japanese girl who smoked and kept getting cartons as gifts from the relatives in Japan (who all smoke).
My wife quit when we had our first kid 6 years ago. I quit for a while and started up again. Quit again using the patch, started again.
Last year I just got sick of it and stopped for good. I started mountain biking with my friend Rushak and haven't thought about smokes since. I feel better now than I did when I was in my 20's.

I started smoking cig's and the "other" stuff to be "cool" when I was 16, quit cigs at 23 and continued my "other" addiction until about 3 years ago when I realized if I quit altogether I could dramatically improve my race times *duh*. Priorities change as you get older, I guess. The smell still makes my mouth water but I've been there, done that and nowadays I'd rather climb on foot and bike .

Camel non filters? Those are rad, had some in my day. Congrats for quitting after so long. I too lost my mom to lung cancer last summer, she couldn't quit. She was only 68, doesn't seem that old to me.
