About 1/2 of the guys at my machine shop smoke. It's disgusting to have one of them come in at 6:30am and say hi to me. The stench of the cigs is way overpowering!

On a positive note, the shop is graced by some of the coolest 8" diameter polished aluminum and cad-plated steel ash trays ever made. (They can hold LOTS of butts)

Everyone should realize that the LA/Long Beach/Riverside metropolitan area has the worst air quality in the country, which means on particularly bad days you breathe more toxins than you would if you actually smoked a cigarette. I am also a former smoker, although I still have the occasional cig if I'm out beering. I do not particularly enjoy the smell of second-hand smoke either, but man a lot of you seem really indignant about this. I for one, would rather smell cigarette smoke than someone's diesel fumes, or some ultra-rich fuel exhaust coming out of some yuppie's Harley. Now that non-smokers have won some battles, it's like it's open season on the undesirables. It's funny how nobody gave a sh!t about smokers in public 20 years ago.

That's true but inhaling unwanted cigarette smoke on top of breathing polluted air isn't making the air I breathe any better....

A few years back San Bernardino-Riverside had the worst particulate air count in the entire county.

Foo, Jayman, Drew12 my helmet goes off to you three (and any others) for kicking this nasty habit. I had friend in HS that smoked and they new to sit down wind of me. I can't stand it when people smoke right outside the office door. There is one way in to our office on this side of the building and it seems to some to be the only place to suck on their lung darts. It's truly inconsiderate. As for you three (+) you rock. Keep breathing smokefree, though not smogfree, for the rest of your lives.

A fair statement, and this thread is evidence that there is definitely no shortage of rude smokers. I think in your case you are well within your rights to (politely) explain to your neighbors how their violation of the complex rules affects you and your household. If those are the rules and there is a designated area, that shouldn't be too much to ask.

At my previous job the two drones in the front offices would go outside to smoke and leave the front door open, it would come right into my office and I would have to get up and slam the door shut...So rude and inconsiderate. But the chick actually had the nerve to ask me to park my car on the side parking lot because her huge truck took up 2 spots....Get this...even though I arrive earlier and left later than her. I did it for about a day and said, f-to-the-k this! She never said a word to me about it.

We should encourage smokers. If you see someone smoking buy them another pack of ultra high tar Marlbro. Hopefully that way they'll die quick and not put a strain on the hospitals putting up our medical insurance.
Too many people in the world and sadly Darwin has a way to stamp some of them out, its called stupidity and it involves setting fire to some plants and breathing da smooook, derrrrrrrrr.

Geez, I didn't realize that being a smoker means everybody wants you to die. What strain do you speak of? And which hospital provides medical insurance? I've never heard of that, and I don't recall any lung cancer patients delaying my treatment during my last ER visit. There were a couple of dudes smoking outside, though. Should I have taken them out?

I frequently see little red laser dots on smokers stood in the street. Its only a matter of time before people start getting trigger happy.

I smoke and am not proud! It's actually one of my most personal demons....I'm one of those that have tired several times to quit and it still has me beat! (I haven't given up hope though)
I do try to be concious and not pollute the air around me when it may affect others. My Family, friends and other people around me did not choose to smoke so why should I force it on them? (I don't smoke in my car or house because my family does not smoke!)

I'm taking this thread for what it is, complaints of smoke invading your breathing space - It's your right to breath fresh (as it can be) air.I try my hardest to be aware of you and your air and will remind myself to do so when I light up again.

However, could I please ask that you keep the personal attacks of smokers (as people) to yourselves, I'm finding it hard not to take personal! Smoking is my bad habit what's yours?

Thanks...(Rant over)

Yeah, making small jokes about wishing death upon someone is far from funny. Even if said person(s) partake in a habit or addiction that we personally find disgusting, it is still no excuse for wishing harm or death. I don't know about you guys, but it offends me when drivers discuss wanting to take out cyclists because they're annoying and take up the entire road. Sure, I am not a perfect cyclist and there are certainly others who skirt the law, but is a driver, a complete stranger, in the rightful place to judge my life?

Smoking may not be the right choice for me or for the health of society in general, but it's something others do and we must respect their life and personal decisions. That being said, second hand smoke is teh sux0r5.
