In your enviroment I would stick to PC's running XP. A lot of POS software is still old school & most isn't supported on Vista.
Dell would be a good choice, they are solid & have some goods options for businesses. Easy to work on & keep clean

Damn, he sprung for the black? Note to Gene: you paid extra just for the color. Spec a white one out to what a black one is and it's still less than the black. That said, the black is damn sexy.

I have a macbook and use it for everything. Photoshop, MS Office, VMware, all my personal web development (STR, freelance), AND I use it at work. They offered a Dell but I would rather have quit than work on a PC. Yes, I said it. They agreed to instead buy me a nice external monitor and a new keyboard & mouse. Have no regrets. Before trying it a couple years ago I was die hard PC guy - specifically Linux. After trying out a mac mini I saved my pennies for this laptop and never looked back.

Joe - the hard drive & memory are SUPER easy to upgrade on the macbook. Take off the battery, 2 or 3 bolts to unscrew and you can either pop out the memory or pull out the hard drive. Here's a pic; you can see the green of the RAM in that slot:

No the black has a 250GB hard drive as oppose to 160GB for the white Macbook. Anyway, I'm pretty stoked so thanks for all the input.

Just loaded the Garmin training center to it, thanks John.

Just wondering if I should go ahead and load the Canon Elph sofware into this or just go with i-photo? Any suggestions and input of what you all use.

1 vote for iPhoto...if for no other reason than the fact it integrates into everything else (email, iWeb, Pages/Keynote/Numbers, etc). I happen to actually like it too.

You can upgrade it to the 250gb for $100 more. It's still 100 less than the black one. But regardless . . . very nice! If you tend to eat while working (like I do), you might consider one of these: http://www.iskin.com/protouch_mbook_...07120163314411

I meant more logically then physically. I know hard drives and ram are very easy to physically remove and replace/add. I meant more in the sense of having to transfer his work, re-load programs, printer drivers, etc. That's never any fun. Hence why I said to get a big hd now.

Gene, congratulations! So long as you're happy with it and it fits the bill, I think you made a great choice.

Don't forget Aperture.
I have 3 Macs and several PCs and use Aperture exclusively for my Underwater Photo stuff.

It may be overkill for your needs but it is definitely a sweet program.

Garmin Training center sucks on the Mac. In fact most of the HRM softwares do. My new Edge 705 doesn't work with the Mac flavor from Garmin.

Give a serious look at Fusion from VMWare. This is a competitor to Parallels and I find it much more robust, albeit not as gamer friendly.

Also, external Firewire or USB2 drives are getting pretty cheap. Look at one of those for your data backups.

So anyone who recommended a PC can't vote in the second poll? Yep, the mac users are a cult. Only believers can be believed.

N.B. Canon's Image Browser, etc. runs on a PC.
