A bicyclist was passing by the zoo when he saw a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabbed the little girl by her jacket and tried to pull her inside the cage to devour her, right in front of her screaming parents.
The bicyclist ran to the cage and hit the lion squarely on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain the lion jumped back letting go of the little girl, allowing the bicyclist to bring her to her terrified parents, who thanked him profusely. A reporter was watching the whole scene, and said to the bicyclist: “Sir, that was the most gallant and brave thing I've ever seen a man do in my whole life.” “It was nothing,” said the bicyclist, “The lion was behind bars and I knew God would protect me just as He did Daniel in the lion’s den long ago. I just saw this little girl in danger, and acted as God would want.” “I noticed a bible in your pocket” said the journalist. “Yes, I'm a Christian and was on my way to a bible study” the bicyclist replied. “Well, I'll make sure this doesn't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, and this will be on the first page of tomorrow’s paper.” The next morning the bicyclist bought the newspaper to see if indeed the news of his actions were reported. Sure enough, on the front page it read: “Right Wing Christian Fundamentalist Assaults African Immigrant and Steals His Lunch.”

Just sums up how the media can put a "spin" on anything.

did you steal that joke from rush? seriously, the whole "the poor christians are being attacked"/victim mentality bit is getting old. they've always been the majority in this country and probably will be for a long time. and we've moved a few steps closer to a theocracy with bush in charge. and, if anything, the media is conservative- bill got skewered for lying about sex, but bush has largely gotten off the hook for starting a bogus war...end o' rant.
edit: sorry, but i'm grouchy because "somebody" was shaking my house last night... edit #2: it didn't seem funny, so i didn't realize it was a joke. edit #3: that would be "sod". Last edited by dirtvert; 03-27-2008 at 12:00 PM. Reason: sp. |

well according to a group called "reporters without borders", the u.s. has fallen to 48th in a world ranking of freedom of the press (we just edged out togo- woohoo). and with robert murdoch controlling more of the mainstream media every day, we probably won't go much higher for a while. all you need to do is watch faux news for a few hours to realize how much propaganda passes for news these days...
