Default dumb people observation of the day. (yes, bike related)

this morning on the multi-use trail (MUT)

situation:

you have a dog that has issues (understatement) with bicycles.

so, what's the best place to take it? that's right- the MUT! during the morning commute time! I'd say at least one bike every few minutes either direction.

the owner had to make the dog sit (physically forcing it to the ground) as I went by- and the owner had to do it as well for two other cyclists that were going in the opposite direction. the dog did bark at each of us and when i finally went by, i noticed fur up on the back of the neck. great.

here's the best part: there will most likely be a complaint filed (with the people's republik of irvine) about cyclists going too fast on the MUT, without the dog owner realizing that their dog is potentially causing more issue than the cyclists.

so, my math:
1 dog > a bunch of cyclists.

PLEASE tell me if I'm being irrational here- It just makes little sense to me.

Sounds like good logic to me, but you know they're going to side with the pedestrian in every situation.

sounds like a great place to train the dog to me. I when I train my dogs I take them to places where they will be likely to be distracted. That's how you teach them not to be.
The dog was on a leash and you didn't get bit or attacked. Move along now.

yes, but the owner looked like in a situation where said person wasn't paying attention, the dog would rip the leash out of the hand and go after whatever, especially a cyclist.

Why the dog? He's just being an agressive dog that needs to be trained and obviously this guys not the one to do it. It's the person who needs the rat poison and then maybe someone can spend quality time with the dog in a better environment.

Just my .02.

pretty much exactly my point. not the dog, but the owner, hence the "dumb people" title.

FWIW, yes, I am a dog owner. mine don't bolt and they're actually more obedient off leash than on. and, yes, i did the training.

you know what's worse? Old people. Look, I'm trying to get to work on time. I know you have only a few years left and you want to take you time, but come on. Some of us have to get coffee and get to work. We need old people lanes.

Oh, and children. I was climbing Cholla and some 7 year olds decided to take the same line down I was trying to climb up.

"move along now" is exactly what i did when the dog barked and lunged a little. cadence up! gear up!

...yes, I have been bit by a dog at speed while riding a bike before. not fun.

PSA for the day: pedaling faster due to adrenaline with fresh bite wound causes blood to come out faster.
