Toyota warranties the batteries for 100,000 miles.
Just sayin'...

This is the problem: spoke to a Auction dealer today and he DID NOT recommend Hybrids stating they don't get the gas mileage they claim they do. Case in point is the Honda Civic they discontinued.

Every person I've spoken to that owns a Hybrid loves them, loves the savings in gas. But, come on, at some point they must purchase a new battery with labor costs. I'm told $3500 for battery and $500 to put in.

Since we are in a recession and gas prices are expected to rise, I'm thinking maybe I'm better off in a 2007 Corolla.

Help me out here!! Thanks!

I suppose if you're dead, no worries about gas prices.
Honda Fit got a 5 star crash rating

actually, they have a pretty good crash test rating. The body frame is built like roll cage and will take a lot of force to crush the car itself. but i do not know about the occupants..

Yes but they are extremely dangerous.

I'm not sure of the exact kind of battery inside of a prius, but if it is a Li-Poly or Li-Ion, you could be screwed in and accident, or a very serious discharge. I know when a Li-Poly battery loses/discharges to much energy, they simply explode/burst/go up in flames.

Something i will not ride on top of.

i dont think they are lipo packs yet as you stated it's proven to be unstable i believe toyota is using NiMh for their batteries.

If I came accross uptight, I apologize. I certainly did not mean to be like that. I just want to get the proper information out there. Hummers have been my passion since I was a child. I have been obssessed with them ever since the first civilian ones came out in 92.

I am just tired of hearing all the bashing on these beautiful machines. I understand that I cannot change the views of how the general public views these vehicles, but I can certainly try.

I feel the same way about Rottweilers. They are considered the second deadliest dog in the world behind the pit bull. I have two rotts that are little flowers who think they are lap dogs. I constantly get dirty looks where ever I take them. If a burglar was to break in they would bring him a rope to play tug with then try to cuddle with him. Just like Hummers, I will always have one in my life.

For those of you who think a H2 and H3 are just Tahoe's and Colorado's, I would like to properly inform you. GM only shared the same specs on their frames. The H2 & H3 frames are much stronger then the similar Tahoe and CO frames. There are maybe a dozen parts that are compatible between them. You cannot fit a H2 on a Tahoe frame and vice versa.

Hope this came off better.

Cheers

I'd feel much safer knowing they are powered by NiMh's, or even NiCad's.

why is it so expensive? why dont we have little diesel cars here?
US diesel regulations were revised in 2006 to go to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. it went from a 500 ppm limit to 15 ppm limit of sulfur. getting to 15 ppm takes a lot of effort and money in the refining process, hence the jump in diesel prices in late 2006 and 2007.

it has nothing to do with the shipping industry since diesel capacity is no where near maxed out. also, non-highway and marine diesel are still at 500 ppm sulfur.

Would I take a slow car for awsome mpg? Hell yes!

I would recommend staying away from hybrids at this time. Like other have said, wait til the technology has been perfected or at least til it's more affordable. The concern with what happens to the batteries when they are dead is another problem. I'd say just get a small, lightweight car with a small engine that gets good mpg.

If it's any consolation my vespa gets 85mpg....

I hope they are making record profits. Their product is in record demand; they'd be foolish not to since they aren't running a charity. It's like trying to get a PS3 at Christmas.
