Default First race ever.....any suggestions???

Well, I am pondering racing an XC event this year. What appeals to beginers like myself? (racing wise) I have been riding for years, but have never made the leap. Anything stand out???? Thanks for your help!

Race your race, don't get caught riding someone else's race or you'll blow yourself out quick. Just stay within yourself, have fun and don't worry too much about making the podium and you'll do fine.

Take a dump before the race.

Genus is right, ride your own race. You would be surprized how your body just seems to take over. Try to pick a race that is at the same altitude as you normally ride, just until you get a few races under your belt. Eat well and hydrate well the day before and rest. If you can go a few days early to pre-ride the course to familiarize yourself with the particulars. Above all, have FUN! Best of luck!

This is true... Blood powers muscles and digests food... but does not do both very well.. try to destroy the porta potty at the races so your body can concentrate on fueling your muscles with the blood they need

Oh...that explains the porta-pody's before the XC races.

just do it. It will impove you training and motivate you to train harder to go faster. It is very importent to pick the right class to race in beg, sport or maybe clydesdale. I promise you will have a great time just hanging out with people that love the same sport as you.

Morning of the race about 1.5 to 2hrs prior, eat two very large pancakes w/syrup, a couple pieces of melon, and a large glass of whole milk.

Why? because that is what a "friend" of mine told me to do years ago. I could have killed him when I got half way through my second lap.

On a serious note, TRY and get a good sleep the night before, just concentrate on finishing and learning, if you find your self near the front of the pack when the finish line is in sight, go all out and try and take the win. Other wise just learn.

Biggest tip I think a new racer should know ...

Be prepared to leave for the race AT LEAST a day and a half before the race. Meaning, make sure the bike is in good mechanical order, have the gear you will wear ready to go, if using a bike rack have it on the vehicle the day before you will leave (pending security issues), any food you are bringing, have it ready made and ready to go the night before and keep the cooler next to the fridge (if needed). Have the directin to the course at hand, and most of all ...

DO NOT FORGET THE BIKE ( I have seen that happen a couple of time)

Enjoy.
